How to use Drivebit?

I see lot of you are using Drivebit- I just downloaded it- assume I just turn it on and off through the app on my phone and it automatically does the rest? Do I need to do anything concurrently on my HR? I am only on my 2nd day and was dissapointed that my driving distance was skewing my step count.

Thank you so very much for doing this for us. I tried this am and it doing just what I need it to do. Works very well indeed. For refferance, My phone is a Droid Maxx about 2 1/2 years old. My only question was that it asked permission for my sleep log and some others that I didn't think were relevant. However, I obviously gave them. I do worry about full network acces. I'm not an IT person so it may not be as important as I think is. lol Again, thank you. If it continues this well, please don't hesititate to ask me for more feed back and a tesstimonial if/when you need it.

Yeah the app itself doesn't need anything more than activities and log in permissions, the reason it asks for all permissions is because I'm also developing a wrapper for the entire Fitbit API alongside this and did not change the permissions before building a version to release to you guys.  The app doesn't access anything aside from your activities list, though.  I'll only be requesting the required permissions when I release it.

How well do you think this will work on a motorcycle, as that is my main mode of transportation and what I used DriveBit for the most.

So, if I'm understanding you correctly it well update and correct your step count, not prevent it from counting steps? I was disappointed when I say my Charge 3 still counting steps when I was driving, is this normal, and does it indeed correct your step count later? I also thought it was weird how it asked you if you were driving a motorcycle, car, etc... Why should that matter? It should just not count when activated, that simple!

Yes; drivebit is basically a timer for an activity. When you press finish and it uploads it to the fitbit server it's on your account. So the next time your watch syncs it will remove the false steps it recorded during that period of activity.

I think the different activities are to allow for a different calorie count dependent on the activity; so driving a heavy tractor or truck will burn more for that time period than driving a car etc. I always tended on the safe side and went with 'riding in a car or truck' as I wanted the calorie count to be as low as possible so I wasn't coming away from it thinking I had all these extra calories as I found the calories for 'driving' were too high.

Drivebit is a good app so long as you remember to use it! I'd also set it so that you can review and alter the times before it posts them if need be; this can be a life save if you forget to stop it when you arrive somewhere as you simply alter the end time to when you think you actually got out of the car again.

Hello @Luigi802 and @Wilkovian.

In this case @Wilkovian is right on point. Having said that, I'd like to mention that you can, potentially, do the same thing manually in case you forget to use DriveBit. You can click here to find instructions on how to delete step or floor data.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

I know this is an old thread, but you’d think they’d have this fixed by now, June of 2019!!! I just got my wife and I the Charge 3’s and we’re both unhappy that steps and floors are exaggerated to an extreme!! My fit bit today showed 30,000+ steps, 300 floors, and 15 miles, my health app on my iPhone showed a very realistic 7,600 steps, 2 floors, and 2.8 miles. I want simple reality, and not to have to buy an app to mess with every time I get in or out of a car, truck, or off and on my motorcycle. Basically, I’ve got a watch that tells my heart rate, has a vibrating alarm, weather, and lies to me about my fitness efforts.
