Fitbit Update 11/03/15 02:13 PM: Everyone -- The Strava and Fitbit integration issues have been resolved. I am closing this thread from further discussion for organizational purposes.

If you're still experiencing issues, I recommend revoking access to the integration and reconnecting by following the steps outlined here.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to report this issue and for your patience while we worked to get it resolved in a timely manner! Now it's time to get out and ride! Robot Very Happy

Fitbit Update 10/21/2015 3:54 PM:If you're continuing to experience syncing issues between Fitbit and Strava, please check out Strava's response and follow these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Have you tried reconnecting your accounts, syncing your Fitbit tracker, and waiting an hour?
  2. Have you confirmed that you are not recording a duplicate exercise in the Strava app and Fitbit app/device simultaneously?
  3. Have you confirmed that you are recording a GPS exercise with your Fitbit? (Only exercises with GPS on Fitbit will be sent to Strava).
  4. Have you confirmed that you recorded a new exercise after connecting you accounts? (Previous exercises won’t be uploaded. You can use the TCX export from Fitbit to upload older exercises manually).

If you've made sure of all of the above and your activities are still not syncing between Fitbit and Strava, please fill out this form to send your Strava athlete ID to us so Fitbit can continue to investigate.

Fitbit Update 10/19/2015 3:18 PM: I've been in contact with our API Team and they are still looking into the issues everyone here has reported! I appreciate all the feedback!

I apologize for the delay in getting this issue resolved but can confirm that we are actively working on getting everyone back on track! Thank you for your continued patience! Robot Happy

Fitbit Update 10/16/2015 3:59 PM: Please check out what syncs between Fitbit and Strava and some troubleshooting tips that should help get you back on track:

What is synced to Strava from Fitbit:

  • Exercises with GPS data recorded with Fitbit will be sent to Strava (Heart rate data will be included when it's available).
  • Exercises recorded with Fitbit's app or devices that do not include GPS data are NOT currently sent to Strava

What is synced to Fitbit from Strava:

    • Exercises recorded in Strava will be synced to Fitbit as manually logged activities, but will NOT include GPS or heart rate data from Strava

If you are still unable to sync your data between Fitbit and Strava or vice versa, try the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Log in to your Fitbit dashboard
  2. Click the gear icon on the top right corner
  3. Click "Settings"
  4. Click "Applications" on the left side
  5. Click "Revoke Access" under the "Fitbit + Strava" app
  6. Go to https://strava.fitbit.com/ and click "Connect" and follow the rest of the prompts to finish reconnecting your Fitbit and Strava accounts

Fitbit Update 10/16/2015: Hey all, we're continuing to monitor this issue! It doesn't seem as it is resolved for all users yet, some have reported that after a delay it work but it shouldn't take forever. Rest assured that the API team is still working on it! You can expect an update from me early next week, hopefully with some good news.

Fitbit Update 10/14/2015: Hey everyone -- our team has been looking into the issue with syncing your Strava data over to Fitbit. To pass along information to the engineers working on this issue, are you still experiencing issues with syncing and connecting Strava to your Fitbit account? If so, please try to unlink Strava with your Fitbit and relink it again before replying. Looking forward to your responses! Thank you!

Fitbit Update 10/06/2015: We've received reports that users are unable to set up or sync between their Fitbit and Strava accounts. I have forwarded your information to our Product Specialist Team who is currently looking into this issue. Thank you for your patience as we work to resolve the issue ASAP.

Check what changes was made to the s/w on oct 2-3-4 when the funtion stopped to work

I had my last sync on lunchtime CET oct 3 after that nothing.

The answer is there, cause something has changed!

check on both Fitbit and Strava side.

or back the s/w to before the changes and it will probably work again.

@ErickFitbitthe treadmill workout... the point was that I never expected nor have ever seen any of my One activites sync over to Strava.  Of couse you know that most Fitbits don't have GPS features so perhaps that is the requirement?

so today i tried going from fitbit to strava, and it works fine. used fitbit app, took a short walk, showed up in Strava a short time later. see images below.

Some users on Strava are reporting issues as well. see this thread for example:

I ran two hours ago with my Surge and it still has not synced to Strava.  My friend who has a Garmin does not see any delays.

May take mine Surge back and get the Garmin forerunner.

I am still seeing syncing issues from my Strava app to Fitbit - last run record was 10/3, I have done about 8 runs since then and none have recorded. I tried revoking access and then adding it back in a few days ago, but my runs are still not syncing into Fitbit. Appreciate any update on when it will be resolved.

@ann-15Sorry for the delay in getting a complete resolution for this. I've been in talks with our API Team and they are still working on getting this resolved. Some users, such as @Robbie_V, have experienced success with syncing after hours of waiting, which is another issue that our team is looking into. Keep an eye on this lead-in post for updates as I receive them!

What's the word on this? Fitbit should remove any language that any product of theirs integrates with Strava as that does not seem to be the case any longer. It's false advertising...sooo frustrating.

I'm also having issues with my Strava activities being uploaded to Fitbit. The last activity that successfully uploaded from Strava was on October 4th, and even that one was very delayed.

I've sent emails, chatted with customer service, and have been told several times that it's fixed. Each time I've revoked privledges from Fitbit as well as from Strava and then reconnected. None of my activities have imported.

Yes, I have tried all of those things.  Are you guys going to actually do something to fix this or should I just go return the fitbit?  Really aggravating that nothing is working.

Best Answer

Im out of the country at the moment so I can't fully say if it's working for me, however, my past cycling activities (logged with a Garmin 500) havent sync'd across to Fitbit.

Previously, I would take off my Fitbit (put it in my bag), start an activity on it, cycle to work and track the ride using my proper Garmin, stop the activity at work (on the Fitbit), then delete the activity from Fitbit, this was the only way I could get Fitbit to ignore the thousands of false steps on the ride. Strava would then sync the correct data over the fitbit and I would use that.

It seems a really awkward ward way of doing it, but for stupid reasons, Fitbit won't let me turn the thing off, or ignore or delete steps from my log.

So I would in essence log two activities, but delete the Fitbit one after it uploads. My steps and calories would then be correct.

Will that still work?

My issue is that it is taking 24 hours for runs recorded on my Fitbit Surge to appear on my Strava account. This used to take minutes. Therefore my accounts are synced, just very slow

@psykes001Thank you for taking the time to confirm that you meet all the criteria for syncing. We will have further word here when there is an update to share. I apologize for the delay in getting a fix out but our API team is still working with Strava to get this resolved.

@DanFreemanYou could also delete step data from Fitbit for the time that you are riding your bike using these steps.

@NickmorrisWe're also looking into why there is a delay for users such as yourself, who are experiencing delays with successful syncs. Keep an eye on this lead-in post for further updates! Thank you for reporting the exact issue you're experiencing.

@ErickFitbit - I have been following this thread for about 2 weeks now, hoping to see resolution.  Unfortunately, it looks like this remains an issue.  My history and timeline are below:

  • I have been a Strava user since Dec 2012.  I have exclusively used my Garmin watch to load GPS runs / bikes into Strava.  I have also manually recorded my swim workouts in Strava.
  • I started wearing a FitBit Charge HR in May 2015, and joined the Fitbit Community at that time.
  • July 7, 2015, I linked my Strava and Fitbit accounts
  • Over 40 runs, swims and bikes have synced from Strava into my Fitbit account in July, August, and September.  Some took an hour or two to show up, but 100% showed up in my Fitbit account.
  • The last sync from Strava to Fitbit occurred on 9/29/2015.
  • I have posted 7 activities to Strava since October 1.  None of them have synced.
  • I have disconnected and recoonected my Fitbit and Strava accounts multiple times in the past 2 weeks - on the Strava side and the Fitbit side.  With no luck.
  • I last disconnected and re-connected my accounts last night.  I had a 4.7 mile run this morning (10 hours ago), and it still has not showed up io my account.

I do not plan to sync from Fitbit to Strava.  I am only looking to import from Strava into Fitbit.

I agree with one of the other posts to this Forum - something happened on or around 10/1/2015 that changed how Fitbit and Strava interact.  There is some API change on one or both sides that have impacted your connectivity.

It would be great to get this service back up and running.  I saw it as a tremendous strength of the fitbit service.  I really would like it back...

Thanks!
