Suggestion: Fitbit Social Wall / MFP Workout Syncing

Hello there,

This is more of a suggestion than a problem, I've recently got a Fitbit (switched over from Garmin) and one thing I'm quite disappointed to see is that when I track a workout with my Fitbit band, it does not generate the usual 'XXX burned 258 calories doing 35 minutes of Aerobics, general' to Myfitnesspal whereas my Garmin band did.

I've been reading up and it seems the only way to generate these messages to MFP when using a Fitbit band is to manually input them into MFP which is just a hassle. The reason I like this feature is because like a lot of other people, I have a large community of friends on MFP who challenge one-another to various workouts like Insanity and seeing these kind of messages motivates others. Similar to the step counter leaderboard on the Fitbit app. <-- which is awesome btw!

So, the suggestion;

Q. Can we hope to see a similar feature introduced into the Fitbit App? Like a sort of 'wall' where we can see all our friends and see their status updates for workouts / food logging / achievements etc.?

Otherwise,

Q. Can we maybe hope to see better implementation to the Fitbit bands to automatically generate workouts that sync with MFP so that those of us using that app can have our workouts shared automatically rather than having to manually input them?

__________

One of the main reasons I switched from Garmin to Fitbit was because I heard how good it's social aspect was with the app. Upon loading the app, I see this is true when it comes to walking/steps and the challenges etc. I just really think it needs to focus more on the social platform of the application. This is the one thing it's missing compared to MFP.

I've added an example of what I'm talking about below on what I'd like to see within the Fitbit App (or) what I'd like to see Fitbit bands generate when completing workouts on the band.

MFP Social Wall

Thanks a lot.

Hi there @Sharpypus welcome aboard to our Fitbit Community and thank you for visiting us @Caedala

I loved to read constructive feedback like the one you have shared with us @Sharpypus. Indeed, in this case you are not able to see the report of your calories burned per exercise since between the integration of MFP and Fitbit, the exercise is only shared in one way; which are exercises logged in MFP posted as manual activities in your exercise log in Fitbit.

Regarding your suggestion to have a wall to share achievements and all sort of achievements among friends, I'm wondering if you have try our Community feed in the Fitbit app. In the Fitbit community you can get the social support you need to achieve your goals by connecting with friends and other like-minded people in a trusted and inspiring environment. You can share content in the feed and get support as you work toward your health, wellness, and fitness goals, and read news posted by both Fitbit and others in the community. (Note that this is separate from our web Fitbit Community)

However at this time the Community for the Fitbit app is available based on your region. So if this option is not available in your app, we hope to expand into other regions in the future.

Regarding your second suggestion, it is possible to improve integrations with other third party apps, however Fitbit doesn't own or maintain third party integrations since we do not have the access. It's up to the owner of the third party app to implement or update features for their app. Unless there's some sort of limitation on Fitbit's side (e.g. no Fitbit SDK), then it's safe to assume that the owner of the app is the one to contact if you're interested in seeing the integration improved.

To share additional feedback or if you want to see features to be improved, feel free to visit our Feature suggestion board. Here our product development teams consult regularly to ensure we're delivering on what our customers need and want. Please take a moment to visit and give us your feedback.

Just a kick note, I wanted to see the picture you shared with us, but it seems the file is broken, If you want to re-upload your image use the following post as a reference.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have other questions.

I'd like to see that too.

The steps do sync normally and every workout I add into My Fitness Pal is automatically added in the FitBit aswell. So hopefully this is something which could be realised without too much hassle!

Thanks for getting back to me, very satisfied with this 🙂

For the community, I checked it out briefly although not enough to get a real feel for it. I was just curious - is there a way to make our own communities? like for example if we wanted a private community for our work group or gym for example or are all of them fully open to the public?

Hello @Sharpypus, thank you for your feedback and my apologies for the late response.

I see what you are looking for, however at the moment is not possible to create private communities, only is possible to join to the pre-created rooms and as you mentioned all are fully open to join.

I'm sure this could be a potential update in the future, but at the moment I do not have further details. If you are interested to have this option, feel free to support this idea in our Feature suggestion board: Add Custom Groups to Mobile App.

Rest assure we are working to improve the Fitbit experience. See you around!
