Versa not tracking sleep or Sleep Stages.

Please fix the sleep tracking on my new fitbit versa.  I love the watch but miss not having any kind of accurate sleep tracking.  Very disappointed and would not recommend this product until the issue is resolved.

Hello @rceskavich, have a warm welcome to the Fitbit Community, it's great to have you on board. Smiley Happy

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Tell me, have you restarted your Versa lately by pressing and holding the Back and Select buttons (left and bottom right) until you see the Fitbit logo on the screen?

Please note that the Fitbit app currently has in-app error notifications that provide an explanation for why you aren't receiving Sleep Stages on any given night. This is meant to provide insight into what might be occurring to cause this. The error messages are the following:

  1. We need more than 3 hours of sleep to reliably calculate your sleep stages. Learn more
  2. Your tracker couldn't get a consistent heart rate reading while you slept. Learn more
  3. We couldn’t generate sleep stages for this sleep. Please try again tomorrow. Learn more

When you tap on Learn more, you will be able to get more information about why your tracker didn't record sleep stages. Additionally, I'd like to suggest the following:

  • For any of the nights you were expecting to see Sleep Stages, did you ever click on the "Begin Sleep Now" or "Add Sleep Log" functions within the Fitbit App?
    • This is important to note because your tracker uses auto-detection to track Sleep Stages; so there's no need to try and remember to click on anything before falling asleep!
  • Do you have at least 3 consecutive hours of sleep?
    • This is important to note because you typically won't see sleep stages if you are waking up multiple times through out the night or taking short naps.
  • Your tracker's battery isn't at a critically low level prior to falling asleep.
  • Your device is tracking and syncing heart rate data.
    • This is important because Sleep Stages uses a combination of your movement and heart-rate patterns.
  • Your Fitbit App is updated to the latest version.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and keep me posted in case you need anything else.

The only way I've found to reliably get the Versa to show you sleep stages in the morning is to use a wristband over the Versa and surrounding wrist areas at night.  If you've worn the Versa all day, take it off and wash and  towel dry your wrist vigorously before putting the Versa back on.  Also rinse off the Versa, especially the back side with the sensors.  You can thank @hoofbeats95 for the idea.  It works, in contrast to most of the other suggestions posted so far.

Hello,

My Versa is not recording sleep or my heart rate, it's been that way for almost a week. At first I thought it was because I changed my watch face but that shouldn't matter.  I've restarted the versa at least 3 times, I restarted my phone a few times and even went through and turned settings off then on again and it is still not recording them. I noticed yesterday that it is also not giving me my "reminder to move".

What else can I do?

Thank you.

I spoke with Fitbit customer service on 29 November 2019 about Fitbit no longer giving a sleep score. That's when I was told it wasn't tracking sleep stages.  I just read a community input from 2018 addressing same issue. The comments were the same as those suggested to me 2 days ago. (I wasn't even aware of this problem.) Ironically, I'd already tried all the suggestions. Another thing is, I have not changed anything about the way I sleep; I have turned off Versa 2 numerous times; my battery isn't low.  It's just that "all of a sudden, the watch stopped tracking my sleep stages, hence, no sleep score. This is a deal breaker for me. This problem was identified over a year ago, according to the Community, and it has not been resolved.

I have the same problem. My Versa stopped tracking sleep data on Nov 29. Not coincidentally, the app was last updated on Nov 29. I've tried all the suggested troubleshooting, and still nothing. I've tried manually logging sleep, but it shows no data for the hours I log.

Update: My Versa has started tracking sleep again, and it now shows that it was last updated on Nov 18. So I guess they  rolled back the update that broke it.

Perhaps we have to complain in order for the sleep score to work.  Consider this my complaint and I will see if it works tonight!  I'll let you know!

Mine too. No heart rate or sleep since 29th but mine hasn't updated 😒

Did it work? None of the solutions have worked for me. The sleep track feature stopped working 10 days after I got it as a gift last month. Fitbit seems to believe it’s a user issue but clearly it isn’t.

Not for me! Decided to get a new one as I'm fed up with the issues...the only thing it seems to be any good at is tracking the female cycle!

I posted my complaint on 1/8/20.  As of 1/10/20 my tracker has been tracking my sleep stages.  Was it the complaint that made it work...could be. I checked to make sure that I had renewed my premium membership (which I had for the year in September). I checked all my settings.  Now the words Fitbit Premium appear on my Fitbit.  I moved my band up the two fingers from my wrist and made it tighter when I went to bed and I changed my sleep sensitivity to Sensitive.  Don't know what happened but whatever magic worked, I'm just glad it is working!!!!

Versa owners:

Some of us Inspire and Alta owners have had this problem return with the March 2 app update.  (The same problem happened to us in January).  Can you please let us know if your Versa is tracking sleep stages with the March 2 app update?

Thank you!

Thank you.  This is good to know.  There were some Versa owners that had problems in December and January.  Maybe you were immune ...

My Versa has been tracking my sleep for a few months now.  One of your customer service personnel took me through several steps the latter part  of 2019 that started my tracker back to tracking my sleep. Today my Versa is working fine. Man28 Sent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone

Thanks for this information.  My Inspire HR seems to be working now but I may have to upgrade to a Versa if the sleep tracking continues to be a problem.

I have read so many Q&A’s and tried everything recommended by Fitbit and others and nothing will work to make my Versa start tracking sleep again. It stopped on 3/2/20 and won’t track. I have tried all troubleshooting. Please let me know if it can be replaced even though I got it in 1/2/19. Very frustrated. Please help.
