Dear all,
Fitbit now requires a Google account for registration, which complicates our research process. We intended to create Fitbit accounts and provide them to participants, allowing us to monitor their sleep data and export it as needed. However, Google accounts necessitate verification through a code sent to the registered phone number, making it difficult for participants to log in independently. With a maximum of four Google accounts per phone number, managing 50 participants becomes unfeasible. This verification dependency hinders efficient data collection and monitoring, as it requires our constant availability to provide verification codes.
So is there a way to still use Fitbit accounts as in the earlier days?
Kind regards

Hi @Sleep19May
At this time, the only option is to have each participant use their personal Google account. We understand this is not ideal and are looking at solutions for our research community to use.
Thank you for your patience while we find a resolution.

where is all of the old data? I have 3 years worth all disappeared as forced to move across to Google due to it saying FitBit server down and access via Google. This is terrible!

Any updates on this issue? Our team has used Fitbit a lot, but this shift introduced a lot of problems for us. We are not sure if we can count on using Fitbit in a large trial. Any updates on where things stand would help researchers plan accordingly.

Hi everyone,
Fitbit now supports the ability to create demo accounts for research purposes. More information can be found in our documentation at https://dev.fitbit.com/build/reference/web-api/developer-guide/demo-accounts/.

Very annoying. I hate being forced to do anything. Will probably get an Apple Watch simply in protest!
