Fitbit Zip battery draining issues

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Is anyone currently having issues with battery draining on a Fitbit Zip? Mine is a real problem and currently the batteries are lasting several DAYS only! I previously contacted Customer support and my issue was not resolved they just said they weren't aware of this issue with anyone else using a Samsung Galaxy android phone. I have to get this sorted it is costing me an arm and a leg. Surely the issue isn't the phone anyway, the battery is showing empty on the actual Zip not just on the App.

@Ruralwriter can you substantiate your conclusion? As an engineer have you examined code from the app and determined that it's forcing frequent synchronizations or is this just unsubstantiated conspiracy theory? fortunately, for the rest of us, the simple fixes shared above resolve our problems. how does Fitbit generate revenue from a discontinued product? none of this makes sense to me.

@LISKICKS what's happening to you too? happiness from resolving your battery issues? awesome!

I'll be back later, it's getting really weird here hahaha

After all my troubles with the ZIP’s batteries running out within 24 hrs the shortest time) I had great success with first Uninstalling the APP and then reinstalling the APP.
Since then I have had no problem with the battery draining and am still on the same one weeks later.

I've had issues with batteries only lasting 3-4 days since the last two app updates.  I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S10 for synching.  I have used both cheap (bought from Amazon) batteries, and name brand, Energizer, and having the same result with both.  I have done the contact adjustments in the past, but not on every battery replacement.  I couldn't tell you what the display shows, as I accidentally smashed it over a year back; but it still works.  or at least it did.  Since the last update steps have been greatly reduced.  I enjoy using the zip as I can have it in my pocket at work (can't do that with most wrist based devices), considering a policy of not having items on the wrists and hands for safety reasons.  It saddens me to find that the Zip has been discontinued. I have a Versa2 that I use outside of work, and I've had no issues with that.

I'll have to try the app uninstall/reinstall and see if that helps.

I did the uninstall and it could not be completed because I could not read the 4digit number on my also smashed screen. I gave up and bought a new Zip from eBay. It seems to be doing ok for now.

After receiving the (warranty) replacement of my ZIP and doing the un- and re-install procedure I have had no problem with early discharge so far even after several updaters, knock on wood!!!!!!!!

I dislike the wrist models also, I am not interested in all the functions recording my every day life, I JUST WANT TO KEPP TRACK OF STEPS!

I'm running into this problem too, I'm assuming that FitBit updated the firmware on the Zip to make it burn through batteries so people buy new devices since they don't make these anymore.

My workaround is leaving my phone Bluetooth off. And turning it on only briefly to manually sync with my Zip, then off right away again. Whatever the issue is it must be with the Zip constantly pinging one’s device via Bluetooth and draining battery.

I submitted a case for this issue since mine was draining in a day. Don’t suppose it’s been resolved?

I'm afraid not. I can't even use mine since the battery drains so fast.

I have the same issue, 4 batteries in the last week in a new Zip.  Beyond frustrating.

Fitbit doesn't care about customers. And in a day or two this comment will be removed because it's "not useful."

Hi, since they have decide no one really want the fitbit zip, which of course is not true. They  almost tripled the price and 2 whatever they did to the making of the fit bit was to discourage users. I have been ordering Amazon's batteries because they are much cheaper.  But I know I will not purchase another product from fitbit. I like the zip. And they should keep it in functional order. I think it is poor business tactics for them to ignore the group of people that still want to use the zip..replacing battery every week, seriously.  Before you could go 6 months. So why, where is there answer. They refuse to give any ...They just decided to faze it out and this is how.. Triple the price and it's working condition is ridiculous.

Yes, I did the same bought from ebay, the first one I bought at Kolhs for 60 bucks. Now 120.00. It's more expensive and constant battery change. But it is the most convenient tracker for me. Hate when you enjoy a. Item and they discontinue..

I gave up on the Zip and the battery issues a year ago and bought the Inspire 2 and love it. I hate that they won’t fix the issue but am very happy with the Inspire 2.

Very glad to hear you like your Inspire 2 as I'm getting one for Christmas.  I got tired of replacing the batteries but still wanted something I could clip into my pocket.  And it was on sale so not too bad of a price - comparable to the Zip I bought years and years ago.  Thank you for sharing.

Hi, So what happens when they decide to discontinue another item do they do the same thing. I thought about buying another item but that was my concern. I don't have the same confidence in them. If they cane straight out and said it was going to be fazed out that would ve one thing. But they didn't.  So how do you trust when and which product they decide to do next.😌

Yes I have the same problem with my Android.  But I have lifetime replacement with Batteries Plus so not costing me for replacement, just annoying.

Something must have changed at end of January because the drain had stopped for a long time but now it’s back where my battery lasts 1 or 2 days.  App says battery full but getting the no battery icon on the zip.  I will use up the batteries I bought but then if the drain is still happening I am done with it. Won’t get a watch - don’t want something on my wrist which is why I have the zip.

having this problem exactly, but I’m not sure it’s true I’m getting email messages saying my battery‘s drained after a couple days or a week but if I ignore them it continues to work and I thought I saw somewhere that my battery actually did have a charge. I thought it was on the app itself but I can’t find it now
