I have the same problem. It started after updating to android 9 (Pie) on my Galaxy s8. There is currently NO solution to this problem for the Zip other than removing the battery to restart the Fitbit. Keep in mind that the Pie version of android was initially rolled out a full year ago. There is currently a 100 page thread about this issue pinned at the top of the Android section of this forum.

Same problem. I can sync it on my PC but I am concerned that it won't sync when I'll be away for 5 days. Don't want to lose my data

Such a ridiculous state of affairs. I have wasted so much time. My Fitbit will not sync to my Samsung S8. However it will sync to my Samsung J5 & that wakes up the S8 which then updates but after nothing.

That is the only true "solution" to the Android 9.0 (Pie) and Zip debacle. Sync it to a phone running an older version of android. Unbelievable that Fitbit hasn't fixed this issue.

restarting is the only solution that I have found
