For the average person, if you eat 3500 calories less than you burn then you'll lose 1lb.

@scotsbabe2016 it's also dependent on what sort of calories you put in. But generally speaking @SteveH is right. If you restrict your intake and cut down on carbs as a percentage of total macros, and exercise regularly so that you're burning more than you take in, a reasonable estimate at first is that you can expect to lost around 1 lb a week. More than that (for instance some diets) and much of it will be water weight. But if you exercise regularly, watch the budget and, if you can, cut out sugars and cut down carbs, that's certainly doable.
