Activity minutes not showing details

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

when looking at my activity minutes info for a specific day, I can see some were categorised as ‘brisk walk’, some as moderate activity and some as intense. and it looks accurate.

However, only the brisk walk minutes have details attached to it.

As you can see from the first image, there’s no arrow next to the moderate/intense activities. But when I tap on the brisk walk one, I can see more details on that specific activity (image 2)

why can’t I see more details on the other activities?

note that the intense and brisk walk are actually the same activity but it was somehow split in 2. (Maybe because I sat down for like 30s?)

PS: all those were automatically recorded. I didn’t log them manually.

The ones with the arrows at the side are the ones that were recognized as workout; the details that you can see are the same as you would get from the 'days of exercise' tile.  For me at least, the other ones were too short to be auto-recognized as exercise sessions, but there's no minimum timey for you to get zone minutes.

The ones that were recognised (brisk walk) were like 10 minutes. Yet, the intense one lasted 50 minutes and was obviously more of a workout.

It doesn’t make sense to not recognise the intense one as workout.

and since the data is already there, there’s no reason to limit it to only the ‘categorised’ workouts

BTW, the activity in question was grocery shopping (aka walking). Maybe that’s the problem? Fitbit not recognising walking as a workout, even when it should (based on HR)?

either way. Since the data is already there, why limit that screen to recognised/specific workouts?

When pushing a shopping cart, steps are usually not recognized because your wrist is held steady (unless you take it off wrist and put in pocket, losing heart rate data).  So with no steps, it is not recognized as a walk.  If you want it to be recognized as a walk, you can use the Exercise App to record it instead of relying on auto-recognition.

As for whether zone minutes should show detail when not an exercise session, I can only tell you how it does work.  If you disagree about how you think it should work, you can post to Feature Suggestions Board .

Thanks. Though I was not pushing a shopping cart, just walking with a bag in hand, which should still be recognised as exercise (walk)

And given that my shopping trip was indeed recognised as walking, it is odd. Based on the data, it looks like only the part where I went home with my bag was recognised correctly. The part where I walked to the store (10 minutes) and the part where I was shopping (40 minutes) were seen as intense activity (based on heart rate?) but were not categorised.

So seems like there might be 2 issues.

- How the Watch recognises exercises is uneven. A more intense walking activity is not recognised, except for the last part. Which seems to indicate a bug, or at least a need for tweaking. Could it be that it has trouble with slower pace activities? If it’s not taking into account the custom HR zones, that could explain it. (As grocery shopping for me is very much like an intense workout for someone else)

- If the Watch recognises activities (moderate or intense), why can’t we access the details of those? And why can’t we categorise them? Seems like there’s something missing. Is it intentional? (Which would be bad UX imo) or is it a bug?

anyhow. What happens if I create an activity manually for the same timeframe as the ones in question? I’ve tried this in the past and it tends to mess up more stuff like steps count.
