Activity tracking shows wrong GPS map

I have had this problem several times. I will complete a run and when I look up the details on my phone, it will show a map of some place 40 miles or so away. Sometimes it is a place where I have run before and sometimes it is a place completely unknown to me. When I click on the map and open it up for details it does go to the correct map, but the one that is first displayed is wrong. What is causing this and what can I do about it? I have reset the tracker and nothing has changed.

Hey there @GermanyUSA1992, it's nice to see you around the forums! Thanks for already troubleshooting this inconvenience with your GPS map data. Nice way to go!

I'd like you to make sure that your Fitbit app is up-to-date. Since you are using MobileRun for this activity, you need the Fitbit app and the Fitbit app always needs to be updated in order to work as it should. Robot Very Happy

On the other hand, as you may know, the Charge 2 uses Connected GPS, which requires the phone to be within Bluetooth range during the GPS use.  When you first start the Walk/Run/Hike exercise mode on the Charge 2, you will see a phone icon at the top of the screen with dashed lines moving towards it.  If it successfully connects to the phone's GPS, it will show the phone icon as white.  If it is unable to connect to the phone's GPS, it will show the phone icon with a diagonal line through it.

The Charge 2 only generates a map of the Walk/Run/Hike if it has connected to the phone's GPS.  If it cannot connect to the phone's GPS, the Charge 2 will count steps and calculate the distance based on the Run Stride Length defined in the user profile.

In addition, I'd recommend doing the following on your Fitbit app:

  • Log out of your Fitbit app
  • Force quit the app
  • Turn off the Bluetooth
  • Shut off your phone and turn it on after 1-2 minutes
  • Turn on the Bluetooth
  • Log back into your Fitbit app

PS:  I moved your post to the iOS App as there are more chances to get app related replies here.

Hi,

I am seeing the same problem with a fully up-to-date Charge 3, iOS app, iOS and on an iPhone 7.

My only other observation is that the bad thumbnail is usually of a walk sometime in the past.

The details screen shows the correct map so I believe connected GPS and Bluetooth etc are working fine.

Regards,

Chris

Hi
Try to: Close the app completely, reboot your phone, restart the app.
That work for me..

I just found this thread after having seen this a few times. This is with my Ionic, so it’s not a “connected GPS” issue.

I just finished a 13 mile bike ride; the detailed GPS page is correct, but the thumbnail shows a 2 mile kayak route around an island that I did almost a month ago. Granted, the Ionic doesn’t do “kayak” so I tracked it as “Bike” to capture the GPS... but that’s the only similarity.

It’s a minor annoyance, but it’s an annoyance all the same!

Just wanted to add that I'm having the same issue, where the GPS map on the main activity list shows a previous exercise route, but clicking into the exercise shows the correct map. In addition, if I try to share the GPS map with the share button, it pulls the incorrect map there as well.

iOS app is up to date, as is my Inspire HR.

The map shows correctly on my app however when I go to share the map to Facebook for example, it shows the world map, mot the up close route I took running. Is this how it's supposed to be?

I too have a similar map problem. On the app it is correct but when viewed on the website it shows me in the USA. I am most definitely in the UK!

Has anyone found a solution to this, or even had the same problem?
