I was being updated and nothing has changed on my app in over 4 hours and since I cannot see steps on watch, it is in kilometers - I cannot track steps which is the sole purpose for me. I am beyond frustrated

You don't say what tracker you have. If it is an Alta (HR), it might actually be showing steps, not km, on watch. By default it shows steps with a k, k standing for thousands of steps because the display is not wide enough to show full step number.
3.5 k = 3,500 steps
You can change to a clock face oriented the other direction to show the full number of steps, probably at the expense of having room to show some other stat.

@Carolsunshine1 first of all, i would like to apologize for the delay in the response. As @JohnnyRow mentioned, we will need to know the Fitbit device you're currently wearing so we can assist you further. Please note that many devices have several clock-faces and maybe one of them does not show your steps unless you tap on the screen to change the stats showing.
Now, when it comes to the app, are you having trouble syncing? Have you tried any troubleshooting steps? This will be very helpful for us to as well to determine what we should do next.
