Fitbit App freezes on my iPhone

My Fitbit App freezes, I've gone to the Apple App Store and reloaded it, and it still freezes. I've seen other complaints on this issue. You please do something to fix this issue?

Hi @nancyk12 - This could be an iPhone problem, not a Fitbit problem. Here are a couple things to check on your iPhone. They’ve helped me when some of my apps had become unresponsive.

  • Check to see how many apps you have open at a time.  Too many will slow things down, causing some of the apps to be unresponsive.
  • Open Safari on your iPhone. How many screens are open? My husband has had the same complaint as you. When I checked his Safari, I discovered he never closed any web pages. I literally closed 50+ pages. This resolved his issue.
  • Go into Settings > Background App Refresh. Are all those auto refreshes really necessary? Too many will slow things down.

Once you check these items, then power your iPhone off ... wait 5 minutes or so ... then power it back on. This will put all your new preferences in place. Then try opening the Fitbit app again. Please let us know how it goes.

Referring to Carol's suggestions above:

1) I constantly throw apps out.  Most of the time I run my phone with only the Fitbit app running so that it will reliably display my current step count.  If too many other apps are running, I have to sync in order to get my step count updated. I suspected memory limitations so I limit the iPhone to Fitbit app.  So that is not my problem.

2) I currently have two Safari screens open and never go above 4. So that is not my problem.

3) For my iPhone model, the correct location for Background App Refresh is Settings > General > Background App Refresh. It has never been on. So that is not my problem.

Last week the Fitbit app began freezing specifically on the sleep report screen.  The entire app freezes when I attempt to get my sleep report.

Symptoms:

1) Go to sleep report screen.-> freezes without reporting last night's sleep.  Entire screen freezes.  There is no "slow" to it.

2) I go back to the iPhone and discard the current frozen Fitbit app invocation. (NOT an app unload.)

3) Start Fitbit app and go to sleep report. It now shows last nights report line, but otherwise app FREEZES.

4) I go back to the iPhone and discard the new frozen Fitbit app invocation.

5) Start Fibit app and go to sleep report.  On prior days, I have been able to drill down to the sleep graphic which shows Rem/Deep/Awake.  But this morning it still froze on the initial sleep report screen.  After tapping on several report lines, I put the iPhone down.  After at least 10 minutes the drill down sleep report page did appear.

My versa 2 and well as my wife versa 2 is doing the same thing. We have to close down the app several times to determine how much we sleep.

I’ve experienced a similar problem this morning with my Versa 3.   I can get to the sleep screen, but cannot get to the detailed data of last night or any previous night.  The Fitbit iPhone app completely freezes at that point.  I also cannot get back to the previous screen at that point.  I must bring the app down and then started it again. I have tried to reboot the iPhone but that didn’t help.  I also noticed prior to this freeze issue that the Fitbit was reporting strange sleep data for several nights.

It’s good to see you in the community, @n8vz.

Thanks for the details shared in your post and for already trying to resolve the issue. I recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the Fitbit app. Regarding the sleep data, I recommend restarting your device and making sure it is snug on your wrist. I also recommend checking this help article as there are several factors that can affect sleep tracking: How do I track my sleep with my Fitbit device?

Hope this helps!

I keep getting the freezing problem on the women’s health section on the app despite keeping the app as up to date as possible.
I just open the menu up and it doesn’t move once the calendar loads.
