Fitbit app reducing steps overnight

For the last few months I noticed my app does not record my inspire steps accurately. Also regularly the steps appear the same before I sleep then get reduced overnight even after successfully completing goal. Occurs all of the time, have tried logging in and out, resyncing, reset inspire to get steps correct, checking updates are up to date, switching blue tooth on and off. So fed up I’m now considering buying a competitors tracker instead - any recommendations?

I have photos of this but can’t post them.

Thanks for the posts, but there is currently a Fitbit server bug that adjusts steps.

See the first post in Unreliable step counting bug for more detailed information.

Thanks, mine has been doing this since last year around the time of google changeover funnily enough. But the on wrist device is accurate and the app just keeps reducing steps overnight in this case. Resyncing, turning Bluetooth off and on again, logging out shutting down a turning everything thing back on again only sometimes results in a temporary fix. I cannot find a way of unpairing my app with my old inspire, it’s not as per the previous suggestions. I think it’s time for a change if Fitbit are not putting in a fix on this.

@Starry2- besides the current bug, there is a normalisation done at the end of the day presumably.

Please make sure that ONLY your current Inspire is connected to the Fitbit App, click the Battery icon and on the "Connected to Fitbit" page only your Inspire should be connected, remove anything else.

In the phone's Bluetooth you can remove any old Inspires or watches you no longer need, with forget or unpair.

You currently need to sync multiple times to get a correct stable value, before recording that value. The following day, Yesterday should not be less than it was the previous night.

See how that goes first.

Thanks. Not had any previous inspires and nothing else on there or Bluetooth. I re sync manually several times a day as the steps to make sure the steps are the same. Always before bed I make sure they’re the same and take a picture then low and behold again but they are nearly always reduced overnight by at least 400 plus plus plus steps often get the ‘celebration’ on my phone and wrist of 10000 steps  but it’s still reduces on the app overnight 🤔 it nearly always reduces steps on the app overnight as with several others on this feed. ‘Today’ is the night before photo and ‘Yesterday’ from the app. often in the app it’s still showing the previous days step count in the morning as the previous night but when these disappear yesterday has the reduction. It’s really odd!

Checked all of this last night, synced over and over from wrist device and then again before sleep. Here is the step reduction this morning again 😵

@Starry2 - I'll do some research on the matter as it may be related to the current bug.

A test you can try is to sync multiple times before bed, take snapshot and turn off Bluetooth.

Your snapshot should still be valid or less for yesterday than when you turn on Bluetooth in the morning and sync. It should only go up or be the same, normally.

Thanks, I have had no success turning Bluetooth off so I’ve been on the AppStore and re rated it 1 star.

@Starry2- I did some research and wasn't able to replicate this reduction to yesterday's steps overnight on Android. For reference I am using a Sense watch to test and turned off Bluetooth after the snapshot.

As stated previously steps increased a little from the pre bedtime snapshot, which is normal, to account for possible additional movements at night counting as steps.

Are you sure you only have your one Fitbit device connected to the account and not the phone as well? See this article for adding the phone and make sure you didn't do that.

How do I track my steps with Fitbit with my phone?

Also are you sure your device shows the same number of steps at the time you take the snapshot. It should.

It could very well be a bug on iOS but under what conditions? Is it an Inspire only problem?

Despite the current Unreliable step counting bug problem, Yesterday's steps seem as expected, possibly it auto syncs enough times before midnight for it to resolve itself [for the yesterday total] with Bluetooth on.

Thanks I’ll check but this really only started at the end of last year it was fine up until then and there’s lots of people on my thread who have had the same issue (inspire). I have not added or taken anything away since I first set it up. Syncing all of the time now. May just ditch the app completely.
