So what is the story with the ads? I've been getting them from time to time. This is very annoying and unexpected. I bought my fitbit, I don't need to be told that there's something new that I should buy. Do the proper thing and give people a choice on whether they want to receive ads or nor.
This is amateurish.

@SunsetRunner welcome to the forums! Well, have you checked that your Fitbit app has been updated to its latest version? Do let me know!
Try logging out, force quitting your app and then logging back in. Let me know if you still have the ads. I'll be looking forward to your new comments!

Hi,
Do you mean to say that this problem hasn't been seen at all? I find it hard to believe that I would be the only customer with this issue (an issue that benefits FitBit, by the way.)
I have already restarted the app (many times) and it is already at the latest version (as is my iPhone.) I have also tried logging out and back in, with no change.
The ads appear every once in a while, but this should be my option if I want to see ads or not. The app is acting like a freemium app when I in fact paid for the product.
This is obviously as designed, there is nothing wrong with the phone.

@SunsetRunner Thanks for getting back to me! The app is indeed a free service. Could you post me a screenshot of this please? There shouldn't be any ads in the app. If you see any ads from your Web Dashboard, please click here for more info.
I'll be looking forward to your new comments!

Hello,
When I said I paid for the product, I meant to imply that I paid for the FitBit product (Flex), not the app.
This has nothing to do with the web dashboard. The ads are appearing on the iPhone app.
As I mentioned, the ads appear from time to time, so I'll have to wait for it to appear again.
Thanks for your assistance.
Regards

@SunsetRunner could you post a screen shot of these ads? You might need to a roll to the bottom of the page and choose full page mode.
Where simply asking because we are not sure how the ads are getting there.

Hi,
I will post a screenshot as soon as the ad shows up again.
I'm not sure what you mean by rolling to the bottom of the page and choosing full page mode. I'm seeing the ads in the iPhone app, as I've mentioned numerous times.
Thanks!

I’m seeing ads to go buy fitbit stuff as well and often do which is why I googled to see if others have this issue. There is no doubt fitbit push their ads through the app. This is not welcome and makes me angry. It is intrusive and misuse of their clients. It also make me distrust the safety of our personal data.

@John.dav Thanks for joining us! Just like you I saw the Holiday Promotions Ad. However, it only showed once and it never came on again.
Rest assured, we are committed to protecting consumer privacy and keeping data safe and we are always looking for ways to strengthen the security of our devices. All devices since the Fitbit Surge was launched in 2015 have implemented end-to-end encryption. The updates we are rolling out include ensuring encrypted communications for trackers launched prior to Surge. We are proud to be recognized by the researchers for using the most effective security mechanisms in our products when compared to other vendors.
The trust of our customers is paramount and we carefully design security measures for new products, continuously monitor for new threats, and diligently respond to identified issues. Hope this makes sense.

Yet another one of the regular ads. They only go after you have clicked the link. This is forced on fitbit users who have already paid a premium for the product. Way to go Fitbit! (see attached screenshot)

Regardless of how many times your ad showed, once is too many. Regardless of how proud you are to be recognized by researchers, some people are not happy to get spammy ads.

@John.dav @John.dav thanks for your reports about this. Check out these posts for further info about this topic (Post 1 & Post 2).
Try tapping on it to make it go away; you'll be redirected to a page, close it and go back to your app. Make sure you force quit your app before opening it again.
Good luck!

I'm still wondering if the OP really saw an add for the retired Surge, as the title implies.
