Ionic not syncing after updating to iOS12.

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

After latest ios update, I was no longer getting text or call notifications.  I then couldn't get it to sync.  I restarted the watch, restarted phone, removed the app, reinstalled, and shut off bluetooth and turned it back on-all I get is the “connecting tracker” and a spinning circle.  What can I do?

I deleted the App, and turned off my mobile and turned it back on again, when I downloaded and installed the App my phone re-discovered my Ionic and after a minute or two requested a re-pair and all was good.

Hello @Barnmom540, have a warm welcome to the Fitbit Community, it's great to have you on board. I appreciate your help @wmchapman, I hope you're doing well. Smiley Happy

@Barnmom540, thanks for your participation in the Forums, for letting us know about this situation and for letting us know about the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far. If you have already tried the troubleshooting steps @wmchapman kindly posted and your Ionic is still having trouble syncing, please try the following steps in order:

  1. Force quit the Fitbit app.
  2. Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth off and back on.
  3. Open the Fitbit app.
  4. If your Fitbit device didn't sync, restart your phone again.
  5. Open the Fitbit app.
  6. If your Fitbit device didn't sync, restart it one more time.
  7. If your Fitbit device won't sync after the restart, log in to your Fitbit account on a different phone, tablet, or computer and try to sync.
  8. If your Fitbit device still doesn’t sync, remove all other Fitbit devices from your account and from the list of connected Bluetooth devices on your mobile device and try to sync.

After your Ionic has synced, try to enable Notifications once again. I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and keep me posted in case you need anything else.

  1. Which watch or tracker are you currently using?
  2. Which iPhone model are you using?
  3. OS version running on your phone.
  4. App version currently installed on your phone (go to Account > Help to get it.)
  5. List of troubleshooting steps you've tried so far.

Thanks for your patience and understanding, I'll be waiting to hear from you.

I'll add my name to this growing list.

Fitbit Ionic

Fitbit Ionic Version 27.32.12.19

Fitbit App Version 32.12.19

Apple 8 Plus

iOS 12.0.1

I've done all the steps that's been suggested above.  Multiple times.  And still no luck on getting my Ionic to connect and sync.

What I do notice is when I go into Apple | Settings | Bluetooth, that the Ionic is listed, but shows "Not Connected".  When I click on Ionic to "connect", I either get the spinning dial and it returns to "Not Connected" or it will show Connected, but when I go into the Fitbit App on my phone, the sync cannot happen because the Fitbit app doesn't show the Ionic is connected.

After fiddling with this for a while, I will then go back to Bluetooth, and notice the Ionic is listed as "Not Connected" again.  So even though it says "Connected" for a brief time, it's really not.  I've even tried to connect the Ionic in Bluetooth and watched as it cycled between "Connected" and "Not Connected" several times...going back and forth, back and forth, and the whole time never really connecting with the phone...which of course makes it hard for the Fitbit app to find it.

I should mention, I have other things connected to Bluetooth on this phone.  For example, my Apple Airpods connect and stay connected and work.  My car connects to my phone for music and stays connected and works. I also have a Jabra Wave+ headset that connects and works.

Update (for those following along at home):

I finally decided to call Fitbit Support.

My scenario is once I do get my Ionic synced, sometime, in the overnight, it no longer connects.  I wake up and the time on the Fitbit will be nearly 40 to 45 minutes behind my phone which tells me it has lost it's connection.

To get it to sync I have to following these steps:

1. Drop the device within the FitBit App.

2. Log out of the Fitbit App.

3. Turn off Bluetooth on my phone.

4. Turn off phone.

5. Turn on phone.

6. Turn off Fitbit.

7. Turn Bluetooth on, on the phone.

8. Turn on Fitbit.

9. Launch Fitbit, log into account.

10. Go to Set Up a Device.

11. Follow screen prompts.

At this point, the Fitbit app will "finally" find the device and connect.  Everything will be good through out the day.  However, I'm certain, as has happened all this week, by tomorrow, the Fitbit will have lost connectivity to the iPhone and won't connect.

By calling support and opening a case, I now have a Case # I can reference when this happens tomorrow so we have documentation / accountability that this is happening repeatedly.

At this point, my hope is that this is either a Known Issue with the most recent update and the case can be referred to development for further investigation, or, I get a replacement since my watch is still under the one year warranty.

Will keep this thread update.

Here’s how I got mine fixed.  I deleted my ionic from my Fitbit app. I logged off Fitbit app. I deleted the app off my phone I shut down my Bluetooth. I loaded a new fit bit app logged back on.  Through the process that I had a new ionic watch. And it prompted me through the process, everything seems to be working fine. I guess there was some kind of glitch in the new iOS 12 and fit bit and it’s been fixed hence why I had to delete it and bring it back in.

I am in the same boat. It is utterly bloody useless. I have tried every step suggested and am at the point of binning the watch as I cannot use when I travel

Hi everyone. Sorry to hear about your difficulties syncing your Ionic. Please try to your phone's bluetooth settings and remove all devices listed there. Restart your phone and restart your device. This should help refresh the link between your phone and your Ionic. You can find additional tips here.

Let me know how it goes!

I pretty much have to do that every day.  It'll stay connected for an hour or two and then drop.

Sadly, while my Fitbit isn't a year old, the two options I was given was spend $125.00 for a new Fitbit Ionic or get a refurb for free.

So, I've decided that it's time to go in another direction and will be looking for a new watch under a different brand.

I’ve been deleting and re adding the ionus from Bluetooth and app and restarting ionic and restarting phone to get it to sync for like 3 days now and now even that doesn’t work~ Won’t find the ionic.
