Update 7/19/2018: This issue is now resolved, please ensure your app is updated if you still experiencing this issue. We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation as we worked on a fix. I'll be closing this for further reports. If you are experiencing any new issues with food logging, please start a new thread.

Update 7/18/2018: Thanks again everyone for your reports. Glad to hear the update has corrected food logging issues for many.

If you are still experiencing this issue, we would love to investigate further. The following would help our team review:

      • Are you already updated to 2.53.1?
      • What is the OS version that you are running on your iPhone?
      • What food database are you using?(See Account>Advanced Settings>Food Database).
      • What language are you using the app in?
      • What foods are you trying to log?
      • What specific interaction are you doing that is not working? (Adding, editing, deleting, scanning).
      • What time/date did you see the issue?

We appreciate the additional details.

Fitbit Update 07/16/2018: Hey everyone -- We have just released an update to the Fitbit app for iOS, version 2.53.1 which we believe resolves the issues with food logging that have been reported in this thread. Please update to 2.53.1 and let me know of the results so I can quickly communicate that to our iOS team.

Again, thank you for your continued patience as we worked to get this resolved ASAP.

Update 7/15/2018:

Thanks everyone for your patience on this. We sincerely apologize to anyone who has been affected by this issue and have been working hard to find a fix. We are preparing to roll out an update tomorrow, July 16th to solve the problem. In the meantime, customers can use the food logging feature in the web dashboard: https://www.fitbit.com/foods/log.

Update 7/14/2018: We do realize this is a critical issue and our team continues to work on the cause and a fix. We don't provide timelines, in case something occurs and it can't be met, but we hope to have a resolution soon. Thank you again for your patience, reports, and cooperation.

Update 7/13/2018: Hi Everyone - we definitely do hear your reports and frustration on missing and strange food logs. Our engineers are still investigating and I hope to have a resolution shortly.

While not ideal, you can log on Fitbit.com food log and it will populate on iOS correctly once you sync. You can log it here. We appreciate your cooperation. I'll continue to update this thread as I hear more.

Update 7/12/2018: Hi Everyone - thanks again for your reports. We are actively reviewing this issue and I'll continue to update the thread as I hear further. As a workaround you may want to log your food through https://www.fitbit.com/foods/log. As mentioned in @sreid64's post, it will populate the iOS app correctly. Thanks again for your patience and reports.

Update 7/11/2018: Hi Everyone - I've merged a few posts together. We are currently investigating issues with food logging on iOS version 2.53. Please continue to monitor this thread for updates. If this is severely affecting your food logging, you may want to log through Fitbit.com. Thank you very much for your reports and patience as we review.

Everything I add disappears instantly.  I added coffee this moeining and it is still there but I’ve added my lunch items four separate ways and they just disappear in front of my eyes!!!

Did it happen after the last update yesterday? Mine was fine until then.
They told me to go on the computer and use dashboard for the time being
until they figure out what the issue is. That is a hassle, but I’m doing
it.

Having MAJOR issues with food logging since yesterday afternoon. Still an issue right now. The add (+) symbol is not adding the items I choose or adding ones I didn't pick. For example I added a Coke Slurpee and it instead decided to randomly put Protein Shake on my log instead. I wasn't that healthy! LOL! Hope this issue gets fixed really soon.

Im having this issue too - please can this be resolved and new update ASAP as it’s not as easy to update online!!  Just annoying, I use everyday & now cant!!

When will this issue be resolved? This is a real pain in the but.

Best Answer

Just wanted to check on the status of this issue...when I log my food it either changes automatically to something I didn’t originally select, or it deleted the log altogether. Immediately upon entry.

Problem with the latest version of the Fitbit app that Fitbit should have informed users about rather than having them thinking their phones had a virus.  No word of when it will be fixed and suggested work around is not worth the effort as data entered via Fitbit.com does not sync with the app.  Come on Fitbit, get your act together and fix this problem pronto.  If that is not possible in the next 12 hours then let users reinstall previous version that worked.  Also in the future, if a problem arises, inform users immediately rather than putting them through the mill trying to find out if something is wrong.

Same here with iPhone X, using FB version 2.53. Although it will synch with food entered on desktop.

Okay, I am just throwing this out there, but the way this is getting handled seems to be taking a while, which if its a database issue or the like, that’s understandable, but why hasn’t this triggered a temporary rollback of the update. The update is listed to just be bug fixes, if the bug fix breaks the functionality of the app, it may be time to admit this was not ready to deploy. I like the Fitbit, and just yesterday was commenting how impressed I was coming to the end of my warranty period, it was a pricey buy but has really helped with my diet and workout regiment. The food tracking has been one of the 3 primary functions I use my Fitbit for, so yeah, not demanding my money back or anything, but from a consumer stand point, this is a bit of a let down so far on how its being resolved.

Any progress?

Any additional updates on the fix? Very frustrating

The food tracker wasn’t even that good as it was compared to the under armor one.

 At least it worked.

This is very annoying

I’m having a very similar problem. Custom foods no longer track with their calorie information. I will choose one custom food and get an entirely different food type with a different amount of  total calories and nutrients.

Since the last ‘cleanup’ which occurred on 7/11/18 my custom foods are no longer correlated with their calorie information. I choose one type of custom food and another completely different type shows up with a different set of calorie amounts. I’m running this application on an iPhone 6s Plus using iOS 11.4.0
