New notification: "Open Fitbit to keep your data synchronized"

After the most recent app update yesterday, every time I close the Fitbit app on my iPhone, this new notification appears: "Open Fitbit to keep your data synchronized".

I have “All Day Sync” disabled (a supposed fix to this), but that does not disable the new, annoying, notification.

@Colinm39 it is indeed an iOS issue.

@Colinm39@SteveH thanks for weighing in on this. It appears that only iOS users are experiencing this since updating to v2.92 on iOS, but Android users may be experiencing the same when Android 2.92 reaches 100% today. This is expected behavior but the team is monitoring the feedback.

@SteveH  You are one of the 10%. This is good to know, so maybe we won't see feedback from Android users on this. I'll mention this to the product team. It's not supposed to be a problem, but a reminder that keeping the app open helps the full user experience on Fitbit. But I do want to help find a solution for those who find this a nuisance.

Getting a reminder to sync when you haven’t done it in a while may be good. But to get a reminder only after you have already opened and closed it to log in an activity or food, is totally unnecessary.

I’m more surprised that people get extremely annoyed by a simple quick popup notification. A lot of people out there take technology for granted these days without even realizing. It’s sad to see sometimes. 10 years ago a feature like this would be magical and intriguing to us. Yet now a days no one is ever satisfied with simple changes. Technology sort of messed this world up

Just adding various foods consumed to the Food tile as I consume and/or think about it.. No issues there.

This is the way I use my Sony Android....and hope in could help others..

  • OFF, "All day sync" and  "Always Connected" is ON
  • I just hit the Home button to go out of Fitbit App
  • Do other things like banking and Fitbit Community.
  • Then Tap the Fitbit App Icon again.. It syncs when I open the App.
  • When I create a nights sleep HR Activity Exercise, I tap  <--- Exercise to go back to Dashboard, it syncs and then I can look at the results of the sleep HR in the Exercise tile.

With all of that since my last post I have not had one Open Fitbit notification... In the Android Fitbit App settings

  • Fitbit Notifications, Sync Service = Off
  • Background data = Off
  • Permissions, All are On
  • Data Usage.. Background Mobile Data = Off
  • Open by default = No defaults set

PS..... Should this topic be in the Dashboard Forum........

I haven’t had this notification in the last several days. I didn’t change any of my settings, but seems not to pop up any more.

Hi, boy...you are lucky! I haven’t changed any of my settings (I don’t dare!) and every single time that i open the app & then go out of it...BAM...there it is again! So glad you are not having to deal with this & hope it ends soon! Have a great day! 😉

Fitbit app updated but issue with synchronized message still remains.  Also, I only get simplified sleep details for the last few weeks.  I have tried all the remedies for that as well and no luck.  About to give up on Fitbit.

Hello @Machu I hope you're doing well, it's nice to see you around the Fitbit Community.

I appreciate your participation in the Forums and for sharing your experience with us. Please note that after the latest Fitbit app update, our team has disabled this notification. You can check the official post stating this here. Now, when it comes to Sleep Stages, the Fitbit app currently has in-app error notifications that provide an explanation for why you aren't receiving Sleep Stages on any given night. This is meant to provide insight into what might be occurring to cause this. The error messages are the following:

  1. We need more than 3 hours of sleep to reliably calculate your sleep stages. Learn more
  2. Your tracker couldn't get a consistent heart rate reading while you slept. Learn more
  3. We couldn’t generate sleep stages for this sleep. Please try again tomorrow. Learn more

When you tap on Learn more, you will be able to get more information about why your tracker didn't record sleep stages. Additionally, I'd like to suggest the following:

  • For any of the nights you were expecting to see Sleep Stages, did you ever click on the "Begin Sleep Now" or "Add Sleep Log" functions within the Fitbit App?
    • This is important to note because your tracker uses auto-detection to track Sleep Stages; so there's no need to try and remember to click on anything before falling asleep!
  • Do you have at least 3 consecutive hours of sleep?
    • This is important to note because you typically won't see sleep stages if you are waking up multiple times through out the night or taking short naps.
  • Your tracker's battery isn't at a critically low level prior to falling asleep.
  • Your device is tracking and syncing heart rate data.
    • This is important because Sleep Stages uses a combination of your movement and heart-rate patterns.
  • Your Fitbit App is updated to the latest version.

Give this a try and let us know the outcome.
