Recover deleted activity

Hi,

Can I raise a ticket to get my excersice un deleted or just get the tcx/fit file data?

Pretty sure it should be stored in a database somewhere so this should be possible.

Thanks

Simon

Please make it impossible to delete exercise activity accidentally.

used altaHR for a couple of years and just changed to charge 4. This changed the app to a new version and I just deleted big run by accident.

This NEVER happened before and it was all too easily done. I consider myself an experienced user of this and many other apps and it just should NOT happen.

Why aren’t you fixing it??!!

Hi @JebsHH. I'm glad to see you participating in this thread and welcome to our new members.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, as well for the troubleshooting steps tried prior posting. I see where you're coming from and I'm sorry that your activities were deleted from the Fitbit app without a warning. Currently we don't have an option to recover your information, but we'll continue working to improve the Fitbit app and its features. I also found a similar request submitted in the Feature Suggestions board and while it's not currently planned at this moment, we continue tracking this request over time based on the votes added. Please know that your feedback never goes unnoticed.

I'll be around if you have another question.

@LizzyFitbit   It shouldn't take a Feature Suggestion to fix a bug in the app.  This is the issue we are describing.  A swipe on the exercise in the app is supposed to give you this view:

IMG_0495.PNG

You then tap on the Delete.  But this is not what is happening.  A swipe deletes the exercise with no hope of recovery.  It happened to me.

Can Fitbit please acknowledge this?

Same problem happened to me today

BIG disappointment to the reaction from Fitbit, when so many people have had the same problem over the years

I don't see Fitbit value users' voice at all

I experienced the same issue today.

This is a proper iOS mobile system "SWIPE DELETE" behavior, but it might be easy to add a final Warning because Fitbit does not allow the deleted activity recovery in any way. I asked that the activities be deleted from the web interface, not the mobile app. That could be a good thing. The web app should have more advanced features than mobile apps.

Thanks

That is correct if you swipe right to left on the Completed activity you get three options one Delete ,edit ,share nothing asking you are you sure  You want to delete ....that’s how I made the error on my ISO device ..

It’s far too easy to delete permanently by accident – which makes it pointless having this device, as we use it to gather and keep the data!!!

Mind if I recorded the first three minutes as I was preparing to run.Everything was recorded as zero.  When I actually began my run start it over and recorded a second exercise session.  When I try to delete the first session with all zeros,It deleted both!  I lost over an hour long run and more importantly my first workout with my new Fitbit!  To that point, I was very impressed with my new charge three!  Now... Not so much.  Is there anywayTo get my information back?

Hi, @CimdyO

Welcome to the club of frustrated users with their activities deleted forever.

Indeed there is a way, a manual add an activity, but you must remember the exact time you started the activity and how long it took to finish it.

Your fitbit watch has all the HR, Cals, steps made during that activity stored by minutes and seconds. So, if you’ll match your activity start time hh:mm and your activity duration hh:mm you will get as closer as you were during the real-time activity recording.

Hope it helps.

Thanks

Julian

I do not get an “are you sure” to delete an activity. And it happens to me all the time, the swipe left action moves too quickly and it deletes the line. I’m swiping left to edit workout times, but I don’t know why I bother because it doesn’t change the cals anyway. I don’t know why it wouldn’t adjust, it’s still recording my HR/cals 5 min before I start the workout. I often have trouble with the started workout clearing for no reason. Or sometimes I just hit my screen once and it doesn’t work. Most of the time I have to hit the “play” arrow on my versa screen 5 times to actually start the workout. I could go on and on about the app. Fitbit used to be so great. I am so disappointed nowadays.

@radzieus I totally agree on the 3 issues you rise but I realize that ventilating it through this channel won’t fix them. It’s been months ( I’m not years) that users ask Fitbit to adjust the issue of swiping and deleting. but the developer doesn’t seem to bother.

Editing an activity doesn’t work for me either, I have the same issue in a way that the original input returns on screen after confirming I want to change it.

Same with needing to touch the start button several times (this issue only started recently).

On top of this, I have a more annoying issue which is that when I start a cycle activity, I have to open the app for my Fitbit watch to detect it has to start calculating. Strangely enough I don’t need to do so when hiking.

This came up as i accidentally erase one sleeping log.  If i read before bed my fitbit things i am sleeping but moving (red color) so when it happens for more than an hour i edit the log to make it more accurate and also increases the sleep number.....

Anyway, I also have iphone and, as the original poster of this request, that message does not come up at all.  You hit three dots up to the right and three options present to you " Edit log ;  delete sleep log; and cancel " in that order.  if you unintended hit the middle instead of the top option the record is gone; NO warning.

I have fitbit allowed for notification for all: lock screen, notification center, banners.  The style is set to temporary (I did not use the option of persistent to avoid the possibility of leaving my screen on....which is irrelevant for this matter about a non existent second warning confirmation).

But we get it, you delete something, by design or mistake, record is gone.

As anybody linked in this post or others have figured out by now, not much ever happens.  In all fairness, other apps and software behave in the same way, if there is no massive amount of claims that deem potential future revenue loss, nothing will be done....as everything costs money, both development and testing.

it is been more than a year now from this post.  No matter if it is an exercise log, sleeping log, or whatever, deleting has no secondary warning and it is permanent.  Since this post there has been plenty updates with the app, nothing addressing this common issue.  In a sense, the purpose of the app is to have your information so you can see it overtime and have the option of adding or modifying particulars (all those done fine in my opinion) but not recovering data for not having a second warning or an undo button like you have in plenty of other software, apps, and email, kind of goes against the nature of keeping information.  Now, eliminating a record by mistake is not going to distort your trends, but it is bothersome.

If you have noticed something drastically changing in your fitness score early this year i have too and nobody can explain me why but four attempts to investigate vanishing to nothing on fitbit part.  in my case from checking in late Feb to then in early Apr, my my number somehow jumped from 44-42 (been there for many years) to 65-61, where it still is.  nothing about my weight, resting HR, sleeping time, HR zones during the day, exercise times have changed much overtime, not even age changes that much in about a month.....but the fitness score did soar to athlete level.  I just wonder if next year will happen again an i can beat that marathon record holder whose fitness score is 85....and I can't even run continuously a third of a mile without feeling something is gonna give.  But as I said, maybe thanks to some weird thing in the algorithm, I will bit his score.

I know this is an old thread but I just had this happen to me and there was definitely no prompt. I was swiping to see what options I was presented with but instead the whole entry deleted.

I’m a software engineer and it’s very possible you’re doing a hard delete immediately, I admit strange design choice not to give the data a TTL for this very case, but I’ve seen stranger things in my time.

I just had the same thing happen to me while i was exploring the activity. There was no prompt asking me if I was sure, and the live chat said it can’t be recovered. Very frustrating! Definitely something the app developers should look into.
