We are aware of an issue preventing some users from receiving notifications on their iPhone after updating to iOS 13. If you're having trouble receiving notifications and you updated your iPhone or iPad to iOS 13, follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below:
1. GET UP-TO-DATE
- Update the Fitbit app.
- Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.
2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS
- Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
- Tap the information icon
- Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
- Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
- Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
- Tap the information icon
- Turn on Share System Notifications.
3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS
- Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
- Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
- Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App | Settings |
---|---|
Calendar |
|
Messages |
|
Phone |
|
All other apps |
|
4. RESTART YOUR PHONE
For instructions, see the Apple help article.
If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and watch this thread for new information. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience while our team works to address this.

I just got off the phone with Fitbit Customer Support. I was told that the iOS update increased the security level of iPhones, which as you know has always been higher than Android. This security increase has caused our devices to not communicate with each other. Fitbit is working on an update right now. Keep an eye on your App Store for the update, or make sure you have "auto" updates turned on so you receive it immediately when it is released. I am beyond frustrated with this issue, I cannot believe Fitbit didn't see this coming. They sold us a device that communicated with our phones and had one job, keep it communicating with our phones. Fail.

I’ve tried all the troubleshooting tweeks to try and get my Fitbit to synch with my iPhone but no luck. I’ve asked my Bluetooth to forget my device and now it won’t connect at all! Very frustrating.

Same issue here too, I tried rebooting the Versa, shutting it down then re-powering it up and checking all notifications. Still no text messages 😞

Might be worth updating these instructions a bit.
Obviously, this issue relates to the increased Bluetooth security measures in iOS13. Slightly disappointing that y'all haven't been able to resolve yet considering this was flagged in June during the beta period and it's now late September and iOS13 has gone to GA.
Frustrations aside. One important step that isn't highlighted well in the instructions to fix:
You'll need to go into the iOS notifications settings for each app (Gmail, FB Messenger, etc.) and set the Show Previews option to 'Always' or 'When Unlocked'.
Once you do that, you'll need to wait for a notification to come through for a particular app, then go to the Fitbit app > Notifications > App Notifications -- then you'll be able to flip on the individual apps.

Does anyone feel like there’s a chance in order for notifications to work we’ll need to keep the preview set to “Always”? If that’s the case I may have to seriously consider switching to Apple Watch...
