We are aware of an issue preventing some users from receiving notifications on their iPhone after updating to iOS 13. If you're having trouble receiving notifications and you updated your iPhone or iPad to iOS 13, follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below:

1. GET UP-TO-DATE

  1. Update the Fitbit app.
  2. Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.

2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device.
  3. Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
    1. Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
    2. Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
    3. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device
    4. Turn on Share System Notifications.

3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
  2.  Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
  3. Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App Settings
Calendar
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Tap each notification type and verify the settings:
    • Alerts > Notification Center—On
    • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Messages
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Phone
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
All other apps
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked

4. RESTART YOUR PHONE

For instructions, see the Apple help article.

If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and watch this thread for new information. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience while our team works to address this.

My versa had the same issue, I followed step 2 at the beginning of this post, share system notification was off, I turned it back on and the messages work, the other issue I still have is my favourite clock will not display, I deleted it and installed again but disappeared within minutes.

2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device.
  3. Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on

Hey yes the same here, but I’ve now untucked show notifications in lock screen and left the other as always. Yet to get a notification to see if it works.

Means you’ll still receive the notification when u open the phone (I think) let me know how you go.

I’ve spent most of yesterday and all of today so far on this (killing me)

If you have an Apple Watch it still works I just did another iOS update on my Apple Watch and I’m receiving texts on my Apple Watch. Maybe you need to switch to an Apple or Samsung Watch depending on what type of cell phone you have

Today I've finally figured it out!

I've completed the suggestions by fitbit regarding the changes in notifications and going into phone  bluetooth versa info icon on and checking the share systems notification is on, updated app and re installed the versa, not sure which one but they have all worked. I DO NOT recommend a phone RESET - did this and let me tell you how many things I had to change back!!!! 6 hours later and I'm in business.

As we're all aware there is an issue regarding your privacy now that you've set preview to always....

I hope the following will help others with this until we can change the preview option back to NEVER once fitbit figure this out and provide an appropriate update.

I have changed the notification setting to some apps that I don't want the preview appearing on my phone (text/messenger/banking).

1. untick the box for LOCK SCREEN.

2. leave  NOTIFICATION CENTRE and BANNERS ticked

3. change BANNER STYLE to PERSISTENT

This will result in:

You will still hear your notifications sounds from your phone (if you have that turned on for each item)

You WILL NOT receive anything on the screen, it will stay black.

You WILL see the notification first thing as a solid banner that you have to do something with as soon as you open your phone. It will sit there until you dismiss or open etc.

and best of all you WILL get the notifications on your fitbit again YAY!

This is assuming you have an iPhone with the latest update ( currently 13.1.3 I have an XR) and your fitbit app, firmware (actual versa), are up to date.

I know this whole thing has been terribly annoying and we shouldn't have to do this but I guess it depends on how much you value your privacy if you want to go this far. Hope this helps!! Don't give up and buy an apple watch, you'll only kick yourself later 🙂

Reset of settings on iPhone X not working for my Ionic 😒

OK. I accept that, despite our best intentions, things go wrong from time to time. What is harder to accept is the timescale that this has dragged on for. What I am also struggling with is the lack of communication, via this forum, from Fitbit, as to when they expect to get this problem resolved. A simple communication, detailing what is happening and when we can expect a resolution would be appreciated (and I would suggest, not an unreasonable service to offer Fitbit's loyal customers).

Have tried these “fixes” so many times without success. This is getting absurd. How much longer before it’s actually fixed?

Nothing works. I’ve tried all recommendations and even reset my settings which is extremely upsetting since now I need to reset all my setting with Face ID 😤. I desperately need my notifications because I too cannot have a ringer at work. I am missing all calls and txts from my kids which is extremely important. SERIOUSLY this is an important feature and this should have NEVER happened with an upgrade. Fitbit needs to be ahead of these upgrades to ensure their loyal customers (since first Fitbit was available) are not working hard to try and figure out their lack of competence. I never wanted the iwatch but this is not the first time crap like this happens with Fitbit and I’m sick of trying to figure out how to fix this stuff.

FITBIT get your act together because you will lose many loyal customers. May just have to get an iWatch for Christmas.

I was awakened multiple times last night with multiple reminders about the same calendar event. I thought I could live with less privacy on my phone texts, but this is NOT going to work! I’m turning it off again so now I’ll be checking my phone constantly to see if I missed any texts for
my kids. We need a fix ASAP.

It’s been almost a month I haven’t been able to receive notifications on my Versa. I’ve tried all the troubleshooting. This is why I upgraded to a Versa to get notifications. I understand things go wrong but this is getting ridiculous, for sure. At what point does Fitbit figure this out or offer people a solution?!

That worked!!! I’m so happy.

But

My privacy is now gone. I don’t like that. Shame on Fitbit. Bless your heart

I’ve done everything possible. the time and effort I’ve put into trying to fix this issue is ridiculous. One of the BIGGEST feature for a smart watch hasn’t been working since the upgrade. I cannot have a ringtone at work so I am constantly missing txts and calls from my girls. FITBIT u need to step up with serious fixes. Customers should never have to spend hours trying to fix your issues. Never wanted the Apple Watch because the sleep option in Fitbit is important to me and iwatch does not have that option unless we download an app and battery drains fast with this option. I am truly considering swapping and deal with battery. At least I am not spending hours trying to fix Fitbit issues every single time there is an update. I’ve been Fitbit loyal since the first Fitbit and seriously thinking of dumping it and getting a nice iwatch for Christmas. Thank you Fitbit to the loyal customer service. PS: I know technical team is working hard BUT this should have NEVER happened. Be ready for stuff like this.

I’m having the same issue intermittently. Some days it’s fine until it’s not....

This just worked to get mine back up again.

1. Kill the Fitbit app in the background.

2. Turn your iPhone off.
3. Reboot your Fitbit (mine is an Ionic) left button and bottom right together

4. Turn your iPhone back on.

5. Open the app once you are back in your phone.

Mine flooded with all the missed notifications, had to clear them out.

The new ones are coming in again, hope that helps someone.

I hear you, this is actually my second flex two as I lost one at my gym. I started using Fitbit to track my sleeping habits as I am quite a restless sleeper. I am quite annoyed that I can’t use my Fitbit I’ve really become somewhat addicted to it. I look forward to getting my 10,000 steps every day we’re getting as close as I can or exceeding which I also do. I agree I think they’re taking too long to figure this out.
