We are aware of an issue preventing some users from receiving notifications on their iPhone after updating to iOS 13. If you're having trouble receiving notifications and you updated your iPhone or iPad to iOS 13, follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below:

1. GET UP-TO-DATE

  1. Update the Fitbit app.
  2. Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.

2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device.
  3. Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
    1. Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
    2. Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
    3. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device
    4. Turn on Share System Notifications.

3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
  2.  Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
  3. Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App Settings
Calendar
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Tap each notification type and verify the settings:
    • Alerts > Notification Center—On
    • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Messages
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Phone
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
All other apps
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked

4. RESTART YOUR PHONE

For instructions, see the Apple help article.

If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and watch this thread for new information. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience while our team works to address this.

In you fitbit app, click on your fitbit icon (mine is top left) then scroll down and select remove versa ( or whatever fitbit you have). Then I deleted the app, reinstalled and set up my versa from scratch

Legit been so frustrated... Almost bought a Samsung Galaxy Active and then almost bought a Garmin Vivoactive 3, but in the last attempt to give my perfectly good Fitbit it's final breath, I tried the steps AGAIN. Finally, I am getting text and phone notifications! The most important step that fixed this for me: Settings>Notifications>Messages and you must choose 'Show Previews' as Always (Default). For some reason that was off. That fixed it.

After downloading the update my Versa stopped working all together. At first the Versa was vibrating every few minutes. Then it died so I charged it; however, after 48 hours of charging it’s still dead.

I can’t imagine after a year or so of having the Versa that my fitbit would be useless 😞

I agree. I’ve tried so many times, I think I can do the steps by memory.

ever since the update no notification have done everything possible. Not happy. How long do we have to wait for things to get fixed. Barely a year old. Never again will I buy a fit bit, if they can’t figure out the issues!!!!!!

This is what my Versa is doing as well. It ‘worked’ for two weeks after the original updates from Fitbit and Apple. Now my watch will no longer turn on. I’ve tried three vVersa charging docks and nothing.

Luckily I purchased an extended warranty from my retailer, which will probably be more helpful than the 25% off a new device Fitbit offered me.

For what it's worth, I was having most of the issues described so far but now seem to be back to full function again. I have an Ionic and an iPhone 7 and here are the steps that I have taken. I am NOT saying that they will work for you or that some of them weren't a complete waste of time but I am working again so something happened! I can't remember the exact order but

  • I deleted the ionic from the bluetooth connection on the iPhone and tried re-pair it. That was a pain as it kept dropping the pairing until I discovered that if you have more than 1 bluetooth device in range (in my case an iPad) it gets confused. Turning off the bluetooth on the iPad made the pairing  straightforward and it hasn't dropped again.
  • I removed the Ionic from the fitbit app and re-installed it. Fitbit app > Account > Ionic > "Remove this Ionic". That was a pain too as you have to re-input all the wifi settings but I was getting desperate.
  • I checked on the Fitbit app on the iPhone and found that I was on version 3.8 when there was a 3.9 available. (the app is set to automatically download updates so I don't know why it didn't just do it). Fitbit app > Account > Help > Check for Ionic update
  • During all these steps I restarted the Ionic many many times. (if at first....)
  • I also restarted the iPhone many many times.
  • I made sure that the quick settings on the Ionic hadn't been set to "sleep mode" or "do not disturb".
  • Notifications on iPhone set to Show previews > Always on both phone and Notification Style > Fitbit

I think that's all. Sorry this is a bit long-winded but I hope it might just help somebody.

P.S. When it's working properly the Ionic is great! Don't give up.

I am having this issue as well.

When I tap on the i under Bluetooth  I do not get a message to “ Share  System Notifications"

I  have tried all the suggestions given & still not working.

It is very frustrating.

I am still under warranty.

Is it time to request a refund before the warranty runs out

Since the Apple update, I have managed to flip every button on and off, reset and even factory restore my Fitbit Versa. I can get alerts of a call but can’t get any with text messages. This is so frustrating and has me just wanting to join the Apple Watch since Fitbit isn’t working and hasn’t worked for quite some time now!
