We are aware of an issue preventing some users from receiving notifications on their iPhone after updating to iOS 13. If you're having trouble receiving notifications and you updated your iPhone or iPad to iOS 13, follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below:

1. GET UP-TO-DATE

  1. Update the Fitbit app.
  2. Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.

2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device.
  3. Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
    1. Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
    2. Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
    3. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device
    4. Turn on Share System Notifications.

3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
  2.  Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
  3. Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App Settings
Calendar
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Tap each notification type and verify the settings:
    • Alerts > Notification Center—On
    • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Messages
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Phone
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
All other apps
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked

4. RESTART YOUR PHONE

For instructions, see the Apple help article.

If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and watch this thread for new information. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience while our team works to address this.

Someone said to go to Settings:right_arrow:Notifications:right_arrow:Messages scroll down to the bottom where it says options.
then Show Previews. The change to always (default)

That's what worked for me.
good luck!!

Yes that does work IF you want your message notifications to be read on your phone screen by anyone, Fitbit needs to change it back to the way it was prior to iOS 13

I agree. I don’t like that part. Hoping they come up with a fix soon so it can go back to normal.

It has to work with the never option. I don’t like messages showing previews as always due to sensitive privacy issues.

This fixed it for me, thank you! Not a fan of 'message preview' but happy to get notifications again.

Yay! Glad it worked!

I do not like having my messages read by someone else while my phone is lying around. You should be able to come up with a fix so that it works with “never” for previews.

I'm still at a loss why this works for some and not me.  My phone always allowed "show previews" and I still do not get my text messages on my Versa.  I may never get another Fitbit ~ my consider an Apple Watch or get rid of my iPhone 😫

Shoot. Have you tried all the other suggestions?

Best Answer

I completely agree!!
I'm hoping they come up with a fix. But at least my Fitbit is notifying me of my texts now.

I can’t believe this has been such a huge issue.

@SunsetRunner

I have an 8plus and a Charge 2.
It seems to be working with the message preview on. And I updated everything prior to that...the Fitbit App, the iOS, uninstalled the Fitbit app, the reinstalled, deleted my Charge 2 and reinstalled it, turned my phone off then on, and restarted my Fitbit. After all that it seemed the preview was what worked. But I did have this problem a couple times before and just had to uninstall the Fitbit and reinstall and it was fine. This time was a lot trickier.

I now have accurate time on watch and sync with BT. No notifications whatsoever.  I’m happy I have a working watch. Now for the notifications. Ugh!!! One job.........

Hey everyone.
I got mine to work on iPhone running iOS 13.1.1 and Fitbit ionic. Also tried on iPhone with Fitbit versa and that also works.

1 - On the iPhone go to settings-notifications-messages- and under “show example” turn it to always.

2 - Close your phone and have someone to send you a text.
It should show on your phone screen, what the message says, and a notification on the Fitbit watch.

3 - Go back to settings on the iPhone as before and now turn the always to “on unlocked screen - standard”

4 - close your phone and have someone send you a text. It should show on the Fitbit and only a notification about a text on the iPhone.

Please let me know if this works for you as well.
I see that most people need to have the notification on iPhone set to “always show”, but this should work and not show what the text reads.
