Update 12/13/2019: Please ensure you are on the latest iOS version, currently 13.3. Also check out the updated instructions in our notification help article

This thread is a continuation of our previous discussion on notification issues introduced with iOS 13. If you are experiencing difficulty with your notifications after updating to iOS 13, please carefully follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below.

These steps should resolve the issue when followed correctly. We realize this process can take some time, and encourage you to proceed carefully and deliberately through every step, even if you think you've already done so.

If these steps do not appear to resolve the issue for you, please try them at least once more to be certain, then respond in this thread with specific details about where you were unable to proceed, or what unexpected behavior you are still experiencing.

1. GET UP-TO-DATE

  1. Update the Fitbit app.
  2. Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.

2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device.
  3. Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
    1. Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
    2. Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
    3. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device
    4. Turn on Share System Notifications.

3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
  2.  Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
  3. Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App Settings
Calendar
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Tap each notification type and verify the settings:
    • Alerts > Notification Center—On
    • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Messages
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Phone
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
All other apps
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked

4. RESTART YOUR PHONE

For instructions, see the Apple help article.

5. DOUBLE-CHECK

If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and double-check the following:

  • DO NOT DISTURB

This feature prevents your phone from sending notifications. Verify that Do Not Disturb is off:

  1. On your phone, tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
  2. Make sure Do Not Disturb is turned off.
  • SET UP NOTIFICATIONS IN THE FITBIT APP
  1. With your Fitbit device nearby, tap the Today tab

     > your profile picture.
  2. Tap your device image > Notifications. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your Fitbit device to your phone.
  3. Choose the types of notifications you want to receive. Tap App Notifications and choose the apps you want notifications from.
  4. Sync your device.

Again, if these steps do not work for you, please try them more than once and then let us know specific details about your experience so that we can assist further. Please keep your app up to data and watch this thread for new information.

I've completed all the steps three times.  I am still not receiving message notifications, however, I do receive calendar notifications.

I stopped receiving notifications after the 13 Apple update. I purchased a new Iphone 11 and still not receiving notifications with my Fitbit Blaze. I have since purchased a new Versa Lite and can receive all notifications except text messaging still. My daughter also got a new versa lite and as soon as we set it up she started receiving all notifications on her 11 pro max. This is so very frustrating as the text notifications was a big reason I use the fitbit over an Apple Watch.

The last fitbit app update I tried on 12/8/19 crashed my phone to the point I had to get a phone replacement. I will not be putting the fitbit app on my new phone and prior to that I was not able to receive notifications.

I am beyond frustrated as well - i completed at least half a dozen rounds of following all the troubleshooting steps with my previous iPhone and old Charge HR 2. Since, I've replaced my tracker with Versa Light as well as my phone with new iPhone 11. I am still unable to get any text messages on my Fitbit and it's been nearly 2 months since it broke. That is a huge downside from having this feature available for several years of owning different Fitbit trackers and honestly makes me wanna bite the bullet and just get the iphone. I still have co-workers that have the same tracker as mine and different versions of iphone, but have not been affected by the IOS update. I understand you are working on fixing the issue, but it seems like a bug since it's only affecting some users  - working for a technology company i know from personal experience it could takes years before there is a resolution. What can be done to expedite it so you do not slowly loose your loyal Fitbit users?

thanks, D

My text notifications began working again today after these steps (suggested by other users):

- updated Versa, the Fitbit app, and iPhone

- disconnected Versa from Fitbit app

- removed Fitbit app from iPhone

- re-downloaded Fitbit app

- re-connected Versa to Fitbit app

- set message notifications to 'Show Always'

Text notifications were not working for me since the initial iOS 13 update.  I agree, it has been very frustrating trying all the trouble-shooting tips to no avail and waiting so long for a fix.  I also prefer to keep text previews hidden, and I hope that is fixed again... eventually.

I am not sure if this will help anyone or not, but I finally have my notifications back as of today.  I had done every single thing that everyone suggested and none helped at all, but apparently there has been a new update by fitbit since my last time doing all of this...which was only a couple weeks ago.  Last night I was laying in bed and pressed the button on my charge 2 to get to check my battery, and the next screen after the battery was to enable notifications.  This has never been there for me before.  I held the button to switch to on, and I have gotten all my notifications again today so far!

@lcronin Please try the following to get all day synced set up:

  • Go to the Bluetooth settings on your phone and check if your tracker is on the list of paired devices. If it is, tap on it and select Forget this Device.
  • Restart your phone
  • Restart your tracker
  • Go back to the Fitbit app and try to enable All-day Sync or Notifications again.

@Gt1522a I'm glad to hear that it worked, and will certainly pass the feedback on to our team.

@Tricia_C thanks for getting back to me. I'm not sure why it's not working, but will pass this on to our team.

@Delgots, @mommychelle1989, @Court_knee, @steph_81, @MTV2017 Can you verify you enabled  show preview to always or when unlocked?

@DianaM97 We are working on providing an update on this issue. It should not take years. I do appreciate your feedback.

yes I’ve done that a few times. I even deleted the app and reopened it and started an entire  new account. I set my daughter’s up exactly the same way and hers is fine. The only difference is mine is an 11 and hers is an 11 pro max

Yes, I’ve enabled notifications, completed all the steps, updated app, deleted and reinstalled app, checked Bluetooth configurations, and I still cannot get text notifications

The steps laid out do not work. I have two devices, the Blaze and Inspire HR and iPhone 11 Pro. All the software is latest, performed all the steps in a sequential order to absolutely no use. Tried them all not just one or twice but multiple times over a span of several days through several restarts of the phone as well as the fitbits. I don’t know why the company isn’t paying attention, may be because now Google owns the company so the founders made their money.

can someone give me Sundar Pichai’ phone number or email address so I can give him a call? These products are beyond fail. I need my refund for them. Please let me know how I can talk to Mr Pichai, or help me figure out how I can get my refund. I should not have had to go through 20 steps, multiple times to failure, to get a functionality that you advertise that it works

I have read and followed the instructions above multiple times. Everything  is updated and nothing is set to DND, sleep, etc. I am receiving call notifications . I am NOT receiving text notifications. Is there an actual fix? Next step?

Hello all, Following the ios13 update I have gone through the steps repeatedly trying to get text notifications to return to my Fitbit versa. I have had no success. Does the same issue exist with a versa 2?
