Stopped seeing notifications after updating to iOS 13

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Update 12/13/2019: Please ensure you are on the latest iOS version, currently 13.3. Also check out the updated instructions in our notification help article

This thread is a continuation of our previous discussion on notification issues introduced with iOS 13. If you are experiencing difficulty with your notifications after updating to iOS 13, please carefully follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below.

These steps should resolve the issue when followed correctly. We realize this process can take some time, and encourage you to proceed carefully and deliberately through every step, even if you think you've already done so.

If these steps do not appear to resolve the issue for you, please try them at least once more to be certain, then respond in this thread with specific details about where you were unable to proceed, or what unexpected behavior you are still experiencing.

1. GET UP-TO-DATE

  1. Update the Fitbit app.
  2. Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.

2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device.
  3. Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
    1. Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
    2. Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
    3. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device
    4. Turn on Share System Notifications.

3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
  2.  Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
  3. Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App Settings
Calendar
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Tap each notification type and verify the settings:
    • Alerts > Notification Center—On
    • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Messages
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Phone
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
All other apps
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked

4. RESTART YOUR PHONE

For instructions, see the Apple help article.

5. DOUBLE-CHECK

If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and double-check the following:

  • DO NOT DISTURB

This feature prevents your phone from sending notifications. Verify that Do Not Disturb is off:

  1. On your phone, tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
  2. Make sure Do Not Disturb is turned off.
  • SET UP NOTIFICATIONS IN THE FITBIT APP
  1. With your Fitbit device nearby, tap the Today tab

     > your profile picture.
  2. Tap your device image > Notifications. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your Fitbit device to your phone.
  3. Choose the types of notifications you want to receive. Tap App Notifications and choose the apps you want notifications from.
  4. Sync your device.

Again, if these steps do not work for you, please try them more than once and then let us know specific details about your experience so that we can assist further. Please keep your app up to data and watch this thread for new information.

This is ridiculous really. Fitbit need to fix this issue or give the people experiencing issues a discount or replace the item with one that works.. it’s crap for us to pay this kind of money for the product not to do what it is supposed to.

Gave up. Good luck everyone.

Same here. Apparently they can’t get their site right either because despite my many attempts to get it to “keep me logged in”, I have to re-enter my info every time I come here to reply or read.

This is me washing my hands of Fitbit. We had a good run, but I must move on to something that works consistently.

I have tried all troubleshooting tips multiple times. I receive phone call notifications but not texts. This did start before I updated to iOS 13. I am completely up to date in my phone, Fitbit app and Device. I have a versa 1. Want to get a versa 2, but not sure if that will fix the problem?

Perhaps the company has reached the point of having so many customers that there is no concern for customer service or satisfaction. Bad business move Fitbit...look at all the people ditching these devices and moving on to Apple watches, and with zero response to any of these specific and continued concerns from so many people who’ve spent lots of their hard earned money.

I’d also like to call out that even if I do receive a notification, my device does not vibrate to alert me. Still does with all calls.

I have an iPhone XR. Running IOS 13.3. I receive calls, FB message alerts, and Snapchat alerts. But I cannot receive Text alerts. I have completed all of the steps at least four times with no luck. I’m so disappointed. This is a deal breaker.

I can live without notifications for a couple of days but hopefully they sort it soon. I’m done wasting time trying to fix it for now. #frustratingfitbit

This worked guys!! I am now receiving text notifications
Best Answer

Hi, it worked for me after the last step, when, after I'd done the
1. updates

2. on/off bluetooth 'share System Notifications'
3. on/off FitBit Ionic

...and in iOS I set Notifications to "when unlocked". What I wonder now is: will I get notifications on my Ionic, only when my phone is unlocked (which is kinda missing the point)...and I will get notifications for all my apps on my phone (which I didn't want).
Fingers crossed

Still doesn’t work I’ve about had it with Fitbit

I have done all of these steps countless times!  This is so disappointing as this is why I bought the versa instead of another fitness tracker.  I wish I had spent more money and got the Apple Watch instead!

Most annoying thing ever!! My versa will not receive text messages from my iPhone 7+, but if I connect it to my wife’s iPhone 7+....everything works just fine and she has the same updates on her phone as I have on mine. Really annoying!!!! Fitbit, please fix these bugs or I will never recommend anyone to buy your products! This has been ongoing for me for almost 2 months now!

Greetings! My notifications have not been working well, but I’m on 12.4.4. When I check for updates on my phone, I get “Your software is up to date” and I DO have Automatic Updates On, and typically get a notice and it either installs or I do when I get the message. I went ahead and followed ALL of the steps below, and still in the Fitbit app, I get Bluetooth Pairing Failed - Call Notifications and All-Day Synch are disabled for now. I press Try again - nothing. I’ve been reviewing posts and truly believe I’ve tried everything  including deleting removing the Charge 3 and adding it back. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I need to be aware of notifications and calls due to a family situation. Thanks again!

I was having the same issues and was heartbroken that I wasn’t getting my messages on my Fitbit. I followed the instructions to the T and what worked for me was changing my messages to “always” show previews! I had it off and once I switched it, I started getting my messages on my Fitbit. I highly recommend you all to please make sure ur following the above steps to the T. It will work 😉

It appears that, at least on the Versa, problem solved. I did delete my
Versa from the app and readded it. Also to your get text, phone and email
notifications you need to allow Fitbit access to your contacts or I don't
believe you will get your notifications.

Hello, and thanks for your suggestion. I checked that setting and it’s set to Always (Default). Thanks again!

When I got my new Fitbit Versa 2 I added it. I was thinking If I delete the whole app will I lose everything? Far as my data thats from my Fitbit Versa lite?

Just keep in mind I'm using a Samsung Android S10 Plus . Just delete the
watch from the phone application, not the app. And I'm not sure but I think
even if you delete the app and then reload it when you log back in to your
account your information should still be in that app. Anyway what you need
to do is just remove the watch on your phone app and then reload the watch
back in your phone app. And I believe you need internet access when you do
that. Hope that works.
