Stopped seeing notifications after updating to iOS 13

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Update 12/13/2019: Please ensure you are on the latest iOS version, currently 13.3. Also check out the updated instructions in our notification help article

This thread is a continuation of our previous discussion on notification issues introduced with iOS 13. If you are experiencing difficulty with your notifications after updating to iOS 13, please carefully follow the steps in this article, which are also documented below.

These steps should resolve the issue when followed correctly. We realize this process can take some time, and encourage you to proceed carefully and deliberately through every step, even if you think you've already done so.

If these steps do not appear to resolve the issue for you, please try them at least once more to be certain, then respond in this thread with specific details about where you were unable to proceed, or what unexpected behavior you are still experiencing.

1. GET UP-TO-DATE

  1. Update the Fitbit app.
  2. Make sure you installed the latest version of iOS. Tap Settings > General > Software update to see if an update is available.

2. CHECK YOUR BLUETOOTH SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device.
  3. Turn Share System Notifications off and then back on. If you don't see the Share System Notifications option:
    1. Restart your Fitbit device. For more information, see How do I restart my Fitbit device?
    2. Tap Allow when you receive a message on your iPhone or iPad asking if you want your Fitbit device to show notifications.
    3. Tap the information icon

next to the name of your Fitbit device
    4. Turn on Share System Notifications.

3. CHECK YOUR NOTIFICATION SETTINGS

  1. Tap Settings in the top-left to return to the Settings page > Notifications.
  2.  Make sure Show Previews is set to Always or When Unlocked.
  3. Verify the settings for each app that sends notifications:
App Settings
Calendar
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Tap each notification type and verify the settings:
    • Alerts > Notification Center—On
    • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Messages
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
Phone
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked
All other apps
  • Allow Notifications—On
  • Alerts > Notification Center—On
  • Show Previews—Always or When Unlocked

4. RESTART YOUR PHONE

For instructions, see the Apple help article.

5. DOUBLE-CHECK

If these steps do not resolve the issue for you, please keep your app up to date, and double-check the following:

  • DO NOT DISTURB

This feature prevents your phone from sending notifications. Verify that Do Not Disturb is off:

  1. On your phone, tap Settings > Do Not Disturb.
  2. Make sure Do Not Disturb is turned off.
  • SET UP NOTIFICATIONS IN THE FITBIT APP
  1. With your Fitbit device nearby, tap the Today tab

     > your profile picture.
  2. Tap your device image > Notifications. Follow the on-screen instructions to pair your Fitbit device to your phone.
  3. Choose the types of notifications you want to receive. Tap App Notifications and choose the apps you want notifications from.
  4. Sync your device.

Again, if these steps do not work for you, please try them more than once and then let us know specific details about your experience so that we can assist further. Please keep your app up to data and watch this thread for new information.

Holding the side button until screen goes dark. You would then see the Fitbit symbol.

Mackenzie you can turn it to “when unlocked” instead! I was annoyed too at that but tried it without “always”, and just “when unlocked” and it works too!

Agreed! One more thing though, I changed the “Show Preview” setting to “While Unlocked”, and that still works and it does hide the incoming text message text on your lock screen! That way it is still private when your phone is locked. So you could change it to that and it’ll help while still being able to receive texts to your FitBit. Glad I could help!

Thank you! I happened across that setting and realized it worked too, just in time to find your message! Lol thanks! 😃

Great, I have done everything you described and now my watch will not even accept the code to sync. I have bought 2 Fitbits in the last 2 1/2 years, both due to syncing issues, and I have wasted my money. I should have gone with an apple watch. Thanks for nothing on now destroying the watch to a point I can't even use it. Your product sucks

Still nothing for me. I even got a new iPhone and a new Fitbit snd still nothing

all notifications work for me EXCEPT messages. Calls, app notifications are all fine but text messages no longer come through. I tried all the steps with no luck.

Try factory reset and delete the app.

i tried for days using the troubleshooting steps, but once I did this it worked.

I started over like I had just bought the fit bit and set it up/paired it with my phone right from scratch. It started to work again for me.

That’s exactly how mine was acting too - everything but messages. But I
fixed it by changing “Show Previews” to “While Unlocked” instead of
“Never.” Seems like people are having issues even after changing that
though. Hopefully FitBit is working on the issue.

This is the third time since the update in December that I’ve had to come here FOR THE EXACT SAME REASON!! This is inexcusable that the issue with message notifications has not yet been dealt with!! Enough with telling us how to work around it and just fix the problem, particularly as your work around doesn’t work long term (again, third time). This time, don’t suggest the same ole song and dance, as I’ve done it...many times, only this time the “turn it to always”, “turn it to only when unlocked”, “turn off badges” amongst your “did you check this...”, ”power off”, “turn blue tooth off and back on” did not work. Does anyone there

feel foolish over continuing to use this update as an excuse for a garbage product? It’s clear ya’ll have no desire or motivation to fix your mess-ups, but rather sit back and wait for one of us to traipse upon a happy accident that makes this junk work. Sloppy work, Fitbit, and an even worse work ethic.

I started getting text notifications to my Alta again after allowing previews on locked screen of my phone. It annoyed me to no end though, having to do that when it worked fine on “never” before. You shouldn’t have to give up privacy for functionality you had before. None of the other steps helped, that was the only thing that did. However, that is a workaround, not a fix. It appears to me after all this time and all these complaints (and no replies from Fitbit) that they have no interest in fixing the issue. I was due for a new tracker and had loved my Fitbit so much in the beginning, I was set to get another. Thankfully this all happened before I spent the money. I got tired of waiting for a fix and lack of support and went and got myself an Apple Watch today. I adore it. Now I’m sorry I didn’t sooner. Good luck to those of you waiting for a speedy resolution (or at least a resolution of some kind) 🤞🏼

I am still having the issue that my Blaze continuously vibrates after I answer a call. Has this been resolved some other way or when is it expected to be?

It is over 8 months since the iOS update started causing problems....

Have had my Versa for over 12 months now. Have had no issues until recently and cannot receive notifications along with the million other people. I have tried all the troubleshooting that has been provided and nothing helps.

Fitbit really need to address the issue and resolve it. We are all obviously on the same version if iOS and have updated our app and device so please don’t undermine me by delaying the issue by asking me that.

Restart your phone and Fitbit. Then have someone send you a text. Some other people posted things that worked for them as well.
