I nearly always have my AirPods in use when taking a GPS assisted walk around the neighborhood and I always, without fail, get a map.
Since retiring, I use the Walk Exercise Applet on my Versa 2 two or three times a day. I even used the FitBit app's Walk Applet the other day to test the Voice Cues (which automatically turns on the music) since they are not available using the device's Walk Applet which displays lap information on the device instead.
You didn't mention what device you are using or if you are using a Walk Applet native to the device or the one built into the FitBit app - that could possibly make a difference in troubleshooting your problem.
But it does sound like a Bluetooth conflict issue.
Either way, welcome to the the boards.
Apple Watch 6 - iPhone 8 (iOS 16.7.8) - FitBit app 4.20 - MacBook Air (macOS Catalina)

iPhone 11 Pro Max with fitbits Versa using the standard fitbits supplied iPhone app and the exercise app from bit bits site
So no third party apps
