Hello @bauerej and welcome!, it's always nice to see new faces in the Community.
I was trying to replicate the situation you described but in my case the Fitbit app did let me paste a password on the box and log in. Have you tried forceclosing the app by double-tapping the home button and swiping up the app, then open it again? Also, have you tried restarting your phone? If that doesn't do the trick, please uninstall and reinstall the app and try to log in once more.
