Alta HR Cracked Screen

Is it possible to get a replacement screen for the Alta HR or get it repaired?  Mine has a crack running from top to bottom although I have not knocked it against anything or dropped it.  I'm really disappointed as it is less than 2 years old.

My Fitbit screen cracked after a holiday to Cuba. I had wondered why but now reading these comments it is the heat! Really disappointing!

Hello I have had the same problem with my fitbit Alta HR. The screen has cracked from top to bottom overnight when I wasn't wearing it. Very disappointing.

If admin could report this that would be super.

Many thanks.

My screen cracked to and assume it was due to direct sunlight as I haven’t hit it on anything.  So upset as I can’t find any replacement screens.  Need to find a better quality product as it doesn’t appear Fitbit is doing anything to help people in this situation.  Pretty sad.

Agree, if it is past warranty unless you want a discount for a new product you are sunk.Sent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone

Totally agree. I don’t know why Fitbit doesn’t recognise this and do something about it 😐

Sorry but I’m afraid you cannot replace the screen and will have to buy another one. Such a shame Fitbit are not listening to their customers 🙁

Reading this forum, I wonder whether I chose the correct product! Surely it can take a little heat, and why would it crack when getting off an airplane into the cold? I live in Australia, and I go skiing. My fitbit needs to cope with extremes!  I have had it less than 18 months, and the screen cracked from top to bottom. I wasn't doing anything extreme, I didn't fall over or knock it. Fitbit - why not just make replacements screens available if they are so fragile?

Another one bites the dust. Sorry to hear about this and same sort of age as mine. It’s such a shame that Fitbit don’t take this seriously and replace the watches. Good luck with your hunt to find a different brand able to withstand life. I hear the Apple watches are great.

I totally understand your frustration. I've been living with the cracked
screen for over a year now. I am in St. Martin - nice and warm - and
yesterday, while on a walk, my screen developed a smaller 'fissure'
between the long crack on my screen and the side. I know it's just a
matter of time until the screen falls out, but refuse to put it aside.

Fitbit certainly needs to have an option to replace the screen. Notice
that the screens seem to crack within 1 year of it being out of warranty
(mine was 14 months).
A friend told me it was planned obsolescence on the part of Fitbit. Makes
sense to me.

Sorry to see that so many people are experiencing the same problem with the cracked screen.  I think it is a design fault as surely something that is meant to be tapped several times a day to get the information/scroll between readings should stand up to what it is meant to be used for and should also be suitable in both hot and cold climates.   I have been using screen protectors on my replacement Fitbit which I am hoping will help but, if it goes again, I won't be getting another one which is a shame as I like the product generally.

My Alta HR which is less than 2 years old cracked vertically as well after golfing in the afternoon heat. I have taken very good care of it so I was surprised to see the crack.  Reading others’ comments makes me think it was the heat, although it has been out in the heat before this, but I couldn’t think of anything else to cause the crack.

Mine too had been out in the heat before but I guess they can only stand so much. I think Fitbit made a mistake by not replacing them as there are other great makes  out there for people like us to choose replacements from. Such a shame.

Hi Toch

Sorry to hear that you have also had this problem.

I now believe that the screen is not fit for purpose. It seems to last
about 18 months, then it commonly cracks. To blame such cracking on ambient
conditions is trite to say the least. The watch is not fit for purpose (for
an active outdoors person to keep track of their activity). Personally I
would not mind if this part of the watch could be replaced but it is
unreasonable to suggest that the whole watch should be replaced. This
attitude is unethical and environmentally unsound.

When my watch ceases to work (it is already difficult to read with a crack
right through the screen), I will not buy another one unless there are
major changes to the screen design/material.

Of course you have hit the nail on the head. We continue to live in a throw away society and this attitude from Fitbit just perpetuates it. It’s about time they recognised this.

Hi

My screen has also cracked today and I believe this was down to the heat.  As I set off for my walk it was perfectly fine but by the time I got back home it had a vertical crack but had not been dropped or knocked etc.  Very frustrating that it can’t be replaced .  I got mine as a Christmas gift in 2017 so it seems to have lasted a little longer than most people have reported.

Sadly it seems to be the norm. Min lasted around that long too. You would think by now that Fitbit would be sorting this out as I am sure it damaging its brand. Very sad but I’m afraid there’s nothing you can do about it sorry 😐

Hi,

I texted customer service as mine was less than 2 years old but still over the warranty.  They offered me 25% off a new Fitbit. I went with the charge 3 as the other ones are square and not as sleek looking to me.  Mine cracked due to heat (golfing  on a hot day).  I would probably bang one with a larger square surface.... thus the charge 3.  I would have preferred another Alta for the shape, but none have that style anymore, but waterproof is an added bonus.

So many cracking due to the heat 😡 and yet people still buy new ones. I guess that’s why Fitbit don’t do anything about it after all they get more money a year or so later. Good luck with your new one.

Yes, and when we say heat, we mean normal weather for many of us. I
definitely will not be rewarding Fitbit by buying another device with a
screen that breaks and can't be replaced. Sorry to hear that this has
happened to you 😞.

That's not good, sorry to hear that it has happened to you as well. These
watches are not "fit" for purpose, sadly. It's very disappointing.
