Alta HR has died!

My Alta HR synched yesterday evening and then later on I noticed there was no display on it, just a very faint rectangle where the display should be. It had been fully charged the day before. Took it off and there wasn't the usual green flashing lights from the back. Plugged it in to charge and no response. Not even that faint rectangle. Any ideas? It is elderly for such things, open to it having reached the end of its natural, but don't want to write it off if I don't need to!!

Hello @Weesilvie and welcome to the Community.  I'm happy that the reset fixed your issue.  You are absolutely correct that your Fitbit is on the "elderly" side, although it's not on Fitbit's Legacy Device list.  The average lifespan for the type of battery in a Fitbit is 3-5 years.  Just be prepared for when it happens.

Hi Niriksha20, I used the button on the charger cable. Took me while to find that button! It's on the USB plug end of the cable. I just pressed it 3 times 🙂

Nope, it's no good, despite resetting, it keeps dying. I am sad, it has been a trusty companion for a number of years, but it seems its time has come. Have ordered a Charge 5 which I'm looking forward to trying out 🙂

I’m having exactly the same problem and all of a sudden.  No green lights, no heart rate or sleep activity data in the app etc. I did the reset, green lights back, removed and reinstalled the device, the app but won’t sync, and charger is doing nothing now.  I love my Alta HR; guess I’ll have to get a new one too ☹️

How did you reset it. Mine also died.

I plugged it into the charger and pressed the button on the USB end of the cable three times 🙂

I did that and it powered back up but died again.  I did that 3 times in the end and the charger is doing absolutely nothing now.  I tried a second charger I have in case it was that.  I did get my HR and sleep options back in the app (which is why/where my query started) but I’ve decided to buy a new one (or rather a second hand Alta HR). I love the Alta and will use that until I can’t.  It is an old model now so inevitable but there are a number of “hardly used” out there.  But the reboot did work …. I just think mine has reached its end of life!

Thank you for this information. I threw away my last Alta HR when this happened and bought a new one.  Imagine my dismay when it happened again.  I didn't know there was a button on the USB plug!  Thanks again.

Mine died too a couple days ago.  But the restart didn't work.  I am guessing it is the lifespan of the Fitbit for mine.

Mine did the same thing. I've had my Fitbit Alta HR for 6 years. I did reset it though, but I'm going to go ahead and purchase a new one today. I'm trying to decide if I want the Charge 5 or the Luxe.

Hi Acebaby - I’ve just ordered the Inspire 2 and any wait for it to come. I went for it for (a) financials (b) very good reviews that said it was a worthy successor to the Alta HR and (c) it works in water and I’m a (sometimes!) swimmer. I looked at the Luxe too and looks very good though more expensive.

Alta RIP 😔

@acebaby79 six years is amazing! My Alta HR lasted about three years, so you did much better than I did.

@Piggely I upgraded from the Alta HR to the Inspire 2 and found it to be a great, little device. I hope you enjoy yours.

Morning alexthecat - great you feel the Inspire2 is good - looking forward to it.
I’m lost without my Alta - no steps, no sleep monitoring…it’s like the ‘old days’ have come back again! 😂
