Hi, @Denice11! When you're spinning, your hands are stationary, so your tracker won't pick it up. If you want the steps, try attaching your tracker to your shoe or ankle. Otherwise, I would suggest manually inputting spinning as an activity.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community @Denice11! It's great to have you here!

I agree with @MakMak since this is not a step based activity the best way to track it is manually logging the activity you can find more information on this article

Hope it helps!

I just started using my Alta a few days ago, I do a lot of spinning and find its a bit of a dispointment the Alta won't track it, i tried to attach it to my shoe but it didn't log that either. I saw some one said log it in manually but I can't figure out how to add anything and am finding it frustrating that I can't figure out how to  log it in. Also if the charge has a heart rate moniter would it figure calories burned based on your heart rate, age, and weight?

thanks!!

I am having the same issue. Even when I log it manually it says I only burned like 180 calories. I wish this could get fixed since spinning is the bulk of the activity that I do.Smiley Frustrated

I know fitbit says the Alta picks up cycling... I just can not wrap my head around this. The Alta is a STEP tracker, applying a little thought and common sense will give you the answer..

I have the same issue, but found a solution that works for me.  I created a custom exercise off of my dashboard .  Go to Activities.  In the lower right hand side of the page you will see a small box that says Activities, Favorties, Most Logged and Recent.  Underneath that you will see a blue phraxe that says Create Custom Activity.  I created a CYC activity (name of my spinning studio) did some research and determined I am burning about 600 calories in 45 min.  Created that custom activity and now use it whenever I take class.  Hope that helps!

Hi there - how did you calculate that you are burning 600 calories in 45 mins.  I know how many RPM I average but don't know how to convert that to MPH or calories burned. I'm lost! Annie

I talked to my spinning instructor to estimate the calories

Good solution. Just wondering why when I manually enter the info when I spin it doesn't add the minutes I've clocked for spinning into my daily exercise total

I believe the rpm, time and resistance all play into the calories burned. I change the resistance during my spinning so it would be a lot harder to calculate.
