Clasping and switching your Alta wristband

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

One of the trickiest parts of getting started with a brand-new wristband tracker is simply learning how to get it clasped properly. The following post can help you with that!

How do I clasp my Alta wristband more easily?

  • Before putting the wristband on your actual wrist, you can clasp and unclasp your wristband repeatedly using both hands. This will help to loosen the holes in the band a little bit, and should make it a bit easier to clasp when it's actually on your wrist.
  • As detailed in this help article, most people have success with "pinching" the clasp between two fingers when they go to put it on. This will usually be more effective than simply pushing hard against your wrist, which is both awkward and potentially uncomfortable.
  • An awesome tip that has been shared by @Gmadiane is to place a drop of olive oil on the holes and push the clasp through. This seems to have worked for quite a few other users. Thanks for sharing!

  • Once your wristband is clasped, make sure that both the metal prongs are securely in their holes, as shown below on the left. If one of the prongs is still loose, as shown on the right, then the band is not yet secure and may come off your wrist unexpectedly.

We're confident that you'll be able to get your alta clasped with just a little practice. Don't be discouraged if it's difficult at first - it definitely gets easier over time!

How do I change my Alta wristband?

Fitbit Alta's wristband is detachable from the top and bottom of the tracker, so that you can replace it with accessory bands of different color or material. For help with detaching your Alta's wristband, check the steps in this help article, or watch the video below.

I did lose mine first time out because clasp does not work well. I ordered bands that slide over the wristband from Amazon to hold it on. Wristband is bad design!

I do not work for Amazon... I buy my bands from them for my Alta which I love! The silicone bands are very flexible and are easier to clasp.

Mine was too - I followed some advice I saw here and just clasp it before I put it on and unsnap the band part - it works!

I just paid $137 with tax and have spent 20 minutes trying to get if on. I am one furious customer. My charge fell apart after 6 months. What a horrible horrible horrible product!

I totally understand your frustration. If you aren't able to return it, I would highly suggest checking Amazon for some bands that have a watch style clasp. I have purchased 3 and I'm now very happy with my Alta. While you shouldn't have to purchase additional bands, they are relatively inexpensive and it's better than struggling with the very poorly designed band that comes with the Alta.

Agree with you... I have purchased bands from Amazon too. I don't buy the ones with clasp though. I do not work for Amazon

I enjoyed my Alta Fitbit so much but I lost it within a couple of weeks. I wish now, of course, that I had taken it back because of the clasp but I really liked all the features. I feel like I threw my money away.

Hey there!
So it seems you're having trouble with clasping the wristband. Luckily, I have a solution! First, try to find some Vaseline or Lip Balm nearby. Next, spread the Vaseline or Lip Balm across each of the holes on the Fitbit: Alta. Next, dry it off with a piece of tissue or paper towel. Voilá. It should seem tha it becomes much easier to clasp than before.
