One of the trickiest parts of getting started with a brand-new wristband tracker is simply learning how to get it clasped properly. The following post can help you with that!
How do I clasp my Alta wristband more easily?
We're confident that you'll be able to get your alta clasped with just a little practice. Don't be discouraged if it's difficult at first - it definitely gets easier over time!
How do I change my Alta wristband?
Fitbit Alta's wristband is detachable from the top and bottom of the tracker, so that you can replace it with accessory bands of different color or material. For help with detaching your Alta's wristband, check the steps in this help article, or watch the video below.

I understand & I promise you will get use to the prongs going through the band. I have arthritis in my hands, so it took me about 2 weeks until I was able to do it myself. My husband was putting it on me. Don't give up, all of sudden it will happen. I do think as the others have said. the holes will stretch a bit. What I like most bout the "alta", I can wear it 24/7. I only take it off when it's being charged & need to charge it every 5 days. I had a "One" before the "Alta" There is no comparison. So as I said above, don't give up. All of a sudden you will have fun seeing everything this tracker can do. Good Luck & I hope this helps.

I have ordered several new bands through Amazon. They have a watch clasp. They come in all colors and patterns. Love my Alta now.

just received a new Alta. I agree the band is very hard to put on. I had to use a corkscrew to loosing up the holes. hope I don't continue to have this trouble. My Charge died and I got this as they no longer have the Charge.

The standard band gets easier with use. Some people have resorted to a drop of baby oil or something on the prongs to make it easier to get it started clasping.
Should you decide to come back to the Alta, Amazon now sells a lot of different band styles. I'm sure you could find something that you would like better.

@Osgood, no, you cannot wear the Alta in the shower. Personally, I use that time to charge my device.

I think they must have improved this recently as I just received mine and I had no trouble getting it on and I really am not with strong hands/fingers...usually I'm asking my husband to help me with opening tight things, etc. So, I'm shocked to read all of the issues people have had with securing the alta to their wrist. I've had it on and off several times and have had no issues. Either I got an easier one, or they have resolved this issue with the newest ones. (I purchased direct from fitbit if that matters)

I have had difficulty too. I now disconnect the Alta from the band using one of the connection direct connections to the Alta unit. I don't try to mess with the holes and pegs. It disconnects with the push of my thumb under the band and snaps back in to place easily.

This is my 3rd fitbit. I lost the first HR Charge due to the band coming apart, the second (HR Charge) separated from the strap after 8 months and then stopped working. So I have just moved onto the Alta, and I have spent 20 minutes trying to close it. So I went onto the community, and see that I am not alone. Why do they have so much trouble finding a good, long lasting band? I am hoping the 3rd time is a charm, or I am giving up on fitbit.

I can't get the band to fasten tightly...SO awkward to use. Have lost it twice...first time the dog chewed it up...second one fell off at huge cocktail party. I complained and fitbit just sent another of the same...Horrible design!

Try my suggestion in the forum. I permanently snap the band in place at the holes that fit my wrist. When I need to remove it, I release the Alta from the band where the two connect with the metal clasp. It is very easy to slip the band back on to the Alta as well as to remove the band when needed. Good luck.
