Fitbit Alta only working when in the charger

My fitbit Alta will not stay on after I unplug it from the charging cable. Plugged in, it shows that it is fully charged. I unplug it and, once the screen goes blank, it won't light up again despite tapping it. When I plug it back in it restarts itself, then shows full battery.

The Bluetooth connection is also not working (plugged in or unplugged).

I have restarted it a few times. That doesn't make any difference.

Any tips?

apparently there will not be a resolution to the Alta issue. Trust me after my many calls, emails , it seems like they are instructed to reply that they have not heard of this problem! Being told to press the charger button 3 times (hahaaahhha) oh wait and told to change my view from horizontal to vertical!!!! What???

Fitbit take responsibility!

Boeing comes to mind... just saying.

Hi everyone! I'm sorry for the late response. However, I appreciate the troubleshooting steps that have been performed before contacting our forums.

I would like to follow up and would like to know if the issue persists or if it got resolved. In the meantime, I'd like you to try the troubleshooting steps that are listed in this help article. This article may contain steps that have already been done but you can skip them and proceed with the rest.

Looking forward to your responses!

Just spent 40 minutes on hold with support to be told I can get a 25% discount on a new purchase.  If this many people are having the same issue, why not just state you realize the problem and it is widespread. The person on the phone did not want to admit there was an issue.  Why would I spend more money on a Fitbit product?

@Sc21 thank you for participating in our Fitbit Community! I'm sorry to hear that your Fitbit Alta experienced the same issue. I'm also sorry to hear that your tracker is no longer under the warranty period. The warranty period is good for 365 days starting from the date of first setup.

I totally understand how frustrating this is for you and I appreciate your feedback and comments since this helps us to keep improving.

I'll be around if any questions arise.

I have the exact same problem with my Alta!  Have followed all the troubleshooting tips, did the restart multiple times.  Seems to be working fine on the charger, but stops working once disconnected.  Battery shows fully charged.  Hope someone can help!

Sorry I don’t remember exactly and no longer use an Alta. Try to reset it and start it up.

Hello, I share the same issue with my alta. I looked at the FAQ that says batteries have a limited life of two years. My Fitbit bracelet is over this timeframe.
How can you help replace my Alta please? Thank you

Fitbit DID it INTENTIONALLY so that they can make you buy a new product!! Isn't it surprising that so many people are facing this issue? Once off the charger, the display works as long as you keep playing with it (i tried doing it for continuous 10 mins and it seemed to work fine) but as soon as you stop and the display goes off, it never turns on again! From what I can tell, it is a simple software bug and probably brought in INTENTIONALLY to force users to buy a new one by offering them a 25% discount. DO NOT BUY FITBIT again.
