Fitbit Alta suddenly turning off

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Ever since I did the update  I've noticed my Alta all of a sudden shuts off with no warning. Every time the battery is on yellow but not dead. I get nothing on the screen and it stops syncing. I mainly use it for phone or text notifications so not having it working with no warning is a problem. I am able to restart it by plugging it in. But that option is not always available. It never did that before the update. Now I regret doing the update.

I have had the same thing happen over the last few weeks.

The first time it turned off by itself (with battery life still available), I was camping and figured it had run out of battery, even though I didn't get any notifications / emails.

When I plugged it in to charge - I was surprised that it showed 1/2 battery life.

2 days later it did the same thing - i plugged it in and it re-started itself and showed battery life again.

It has now done this 4-5 times in the last 2 weeks. Each time there is no battery notification / email, and it will re-start when plugged in. It does not track anything while off, so I am missing daily information.

In reading through some of this thread, I have tried the "remove this device" and re-add it to my phone to see if that makes a difference.

I think Alta was a good product...too good.  Mine lasted for ages before all this mess, which is why I don't think any of this is an accident.  I think they're trying to force us into purchasing newer products.

I've had the same thing happen a couple of times.  Alta battery died with no warning.

Mine, too.  Is a pity that such a good Product from Fitbit is getting this much trouble.  If they have a good product, instead of giving their costumers trouble so they can invest in new products, why don’t you keep it in your best sellers!  Is sad.

I agree but unfortunately I cannot afford a replacement and they should
support their defective products or create FIRMWARE to address the software
issue that has been experiencing with ALTA since before they discontinued it

Exactly...which is why I don't believe this is an accident.  The first I heard about Alta being discontinued is after mine started having issues.  At this point I've seen nothing to indicate this isn't a Fitbit causing the issues.

It won't...we've all tried everything.

This is extremely frustrating.  My Alta had been working just fine before the update.  Now, the screen goes completely black in about two days, without any notice, and I'm missing steps and sleep data.  I connect it to the charger, it lights up and shows that it still has about 2/3 to 3/4 battery life remaining, I let it charge all the way up, and then I start all over again in two days.  Incidentally, I've cleaned the contacts and reset the unit twice now, but continue to have the same problem.

How do you restart it please?  Is it by pushing the reset button on the device?  Thank you.

Press the button on the charger three times quickly. See: https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/1186/?q=alta+faq&l=en_US&fs=Search&pn=2

Thank you, NBCanuck, but I've done that twice, and the problem persists.

Yes, a bunch of times....if that doesn't work you'll have to let it run down...give it a few days.

Hey, there's a thought. Just throw it in a drawer and forget about it for a while.  😂

I did but still nothing. Thanks.

It would be great to have disposable income by throwing it in a drawer and
forgetting about it. However , I am needing this for health reasons and am
on a limited income. There are many people that are trying to help each
other by voicing supportive suggestion on the community forum and not
adding more frustration to a negative situation.

Thanks,

Yes exactly the same for me... since the update it just switches off. Very annoying when I go to check my steps or the time. The first couple of times I thought the battery had died so plugged it in to charge and it came back on but has kept doing it ever since!

My Alta is shutting down even when battery has plenty of life-working one minute then completely shutting down until I charge it again...happens constantly
