Fully Charged Alta not turning on despite restarts

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Dear Support,

Fully Charged Alta not turning on despite restarts. Alta stays on while on charging. But it turns off after few seconds of removing Alta from charging cable. I have done multiple restarts, but this does not resolve the issue.

Ditto to your experience with tapping keeping the screen alive for a short period of time, same here! Really hoping Fitbit does something about this, fingers crossed!

Hi, there are so many of us facing the same issue. Is it a manufacturing defect or something else? Could someone from the support team help on priority. Thanks

So I had no luck with any of the troubleshooting. The 2 1/2 year old Alta
is dead. Fitbit customer service offered me a 25% discount on a
replacement. The customer service person was nice and relayed my input
about what happened but really had nothing else to tell me. So I went to
Kohls and got an inspire hr - I got kohl’s cash so the deal wound up being
about the same. I am hoping the new model will last longer. The guy at
Kohl’s said that the average life expectancy of the Fitbit batteries is 2
to 3 years. Which stinks. But I have blown money on far less beneficial
things.

I am having the exact same problem. Every time I take it off the charger, it stays on for not even a WHOLE MINUTE!!! Please tell me what to do, other than reset it.

As far as I can tell, there is nothing you can do. I caved and bought a
new one yesterday.

I received my 2nd replacement today and guess what? It still doesn’t work! Same problem! Turns on when plugged in and doesn’t power on when unplugged. How the hell are you going to use it then if it only works when it’s being charged??

Oh man, so sorry to hear this!!  Hoping Fitbit is reading this thread, and will reach out to all of us and rectify this problem.  Sounds like it is a structural defect with the Fitbit Alta, and perhaps they would consider replacing our non-functioning Fitbits!!

Hi Andrea,

They have opened a new case for me.. Please, can you mark this as urgent. I’m flying out on the 31st May and I really want to have my tracker with me. I haven’t had it for almost a month now. I want to take it with me when I go overseas..

Not sure how replacing a faulty Fitbit with another faulty one then saying my warranty is up has assisted me?! It’s disgusting - I’ve only had this one for a few weeks.

I don’t think there is a fix. Buy a new one.

Customer Service did already assist me, but it was to give me a discount on
a future purchase rather than giving me a fix for my Alta. I am very
disappointed.

I gave up. They will only send you a replacement that won’t work. Poor form Fitbit! Have bought a different brand tracker instead!

I am having the same issue. It will not go on or be recognized when i wear it but when its on charger it says battery full and then my app picks it up

Yeah, not worth it to get a replacement Alta that won't work, or the 50% off another Fitbit.  Would be nice if Fitbit just replaced all of the faulty Altas with another Fitbit model, and did not charge the customers a dime!

I agree , I was offered a 25% discount on select devices. Might try another brand of tracking device

I am having the same trouble. The fitbit is fully charged but won't turn on unless it is plugged in. It also won't hold a charge. Clearly the battery needs to be replaced. Oh but wait, you can't replace the batteries in the Alta. Done on purpose so you have to purchase another one.

The Alta was a terribly designed tracker, it never fit my little wrist and I tried several bands. The problem is the tracker is wider than my wrist, NOT an issue with the band. I needed a teen size tracker face that would be about 1/4" to 3/8" shorter.

Look at all the problems people have had with the Alta. It was a total failure. Newer models might have addressed these issues but it doesn't help those who have the first model.
