Fitbit Update: 3/6/19

Hello everyone!

We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.

First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.

Then, disable battery limitations:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Fitbit app > Advanced > Battery > Battery optimization
  2. Change view to All apps
  3. Search for Fitbit app
  4. Choose Not optimized

Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

Hey Everyone!

Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).

For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here

We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.

I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.

Fitbit Update: 9/26/18

Hey everyone!

Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation. We are aware of the issue and working with Google on a solution.

I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.

Fitbit Update: 9/10/18

Hi, everybody!

Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.

When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.

Fitbit Update: 8/19/18

We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.

Thanks for your patience!

ChelleMToo,   thank you.  My ionic came on and connect to my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and is trying to install the new update.  The problem is I can get into the fitbit to turn on or off anything, because all it kept doing is blinking the fitbit icon. Needless to say, its updating for the 10th time in the last 24 hours.. I really hope this works.

Thank you so much!!

This post by MrPuma worked for me on my OnePlus 5 (well, it's working at least for now): https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Android-App/Android-9-0-Pie-not-able-to-sync/m-p/3141632/highlight/t...

I did not have to restart my tracker afterward for it to sync.

I was able to uninstall the third-party pairing app after I completed the process and it still (so far) continues to sync).

It took me about 3.5 hours to get it to sync. I uninstalled the app on the phone and reinstalled it, but still cannot update the firmware.

read a few posts before yours. Several solutions with OP5 are presented.

@LanuzaFitbit I am sure you understand how frustrating it is having a paired Charge 3, and the app constantly "syncing" but never successfully. It drains a brand new Galaxy S9 in under 4 hours from 100% to 0%.

Can we get some sort of ETA? I've had to uninstall FitBit App completely for fear or losing my phone battery and needing to place a call in an emergency.

Same with my ionic.

This is the exact same issue I'm having with my ionic and my Samsung Galaxy Note 8. When that new update came in it wiped my tracker out completely.  Yes it tries to sync but never finishes.

So, been reading about this Adaptive Battery feature, new with Pie. It's designed to extend battery life, so it sort of devalues apps that drain batteries, or that aren't used often. Also, it seems once the AI decides to block an app, the only solution I've found online is a full factory reset, which resets the AI and starts the learning over again, so the Fitbit app is re-allowed. Maybe an issue with the app running in the background, but not being actually opened? I rarely used to open the app itself, just let the notifications and sync happen in the background.

Anyway, even though turning it off solved the issue, it started up again this am. Adaptive Battery WILL NOT STAY OFF for me, no matter what.  But, I found that by disallowing the Fitbit app in that screen, then re-allowing it, my tracker was found in the app again. Possibly temporarily, but even so, it's a lot less rigamarole than factory resets and constantly adding and removing the Blaze.

Thought that might help someone. Would also explain why it's so hard to fix, it all that is true, because it's a problem with Pie itself, not really the app. But I'm not a programmer, so who knows.

TL,DR check, save, and then go back and uncheck the box for Fitbit in the Adaptive Battery disallowed list, and maybe it will help.

Adaptive battery is a bit of a plague right now.. The only problem I've noticed is that, most times, I have to manually initiate the SYNC through the Fitbit app. If the Adaptive Battery AI can block an app with no way to reset it and that we have to factory reset the phone, that will be painfully annoying.  I hope Fitbit will initiate talks with Google to fix this whole Adaptive Battery debacle.

I'm having the same issue.

Upgrade to android 9 pie on my Oneplus 5 and my Fitbit charge 2 no longer sync and can not be sync'ed.

Tried all the suggested posts so far

-battery optimization off

-uninstall reinstall

- reboot

- 3rd party

Any one got it to work on a different approach please share

Just an FYI - Adaptive Battery is not the same as Battery Optimization.

Adaptive Battery is a new feature for Pie.  On my phone, it's located in the settings under Battery.

Maybe that will help? On my phone, like I said, it doesn't stay off permanently, but turning it off allowed the sync to occur.

Any progress on this issue? There hasn't been any update from Fitbit for several weeks now. The website still declares that Android 5 and higher is supported so I think Fitbit are breaching their own compability statements now.

Android 9 is no longer a beta product and is being made available for an ever increasing number of phone handsets.

The main annoyance for me is that I can't update any of the silent alarms which is the main reason I bought my Fitbit Charge HR in the first place.

I have tried all the workarounds and am on the latest version of the Fitbit app

I have an OP5 and Charge2, and I got sync to work as follows

- delete the fitbit app from the phone
- remove the bluetooth pairing between the phone and the Charge2
- reboot the phone
- reinstall the fitbit app
- login to your account from the fitbit app. This should cause the phone
to pair with the Charge2 and sync should start.

Hope this helps.

I Lost syncing yesterday when I took my Fitbit to a workout and forgot my phone.  So beyond Bluetooth range.  Phone couldn't find the Fitbit.  Nothing worked.  Then I went on a walk with both and tried the running event where Fitbit Versa hooks up with phones GPS .  Didn't know if that would work for me but it did.

Did you read this entire thread? Your fix is only temporary. Who wants to
go through this procedure every time they want to sync their fitbit, which
is daily? Not me! I've tried all suggestions on this thread since Pie
rolled out in early August 2018, to include a factory reset, and there's
still no fix, not from Fitbit or Google.

My recommendation is to dump Fitbit and/or Android. Both no longer support
their customers.

It has been almost 3 months since your last post.  What is the point of buy a smart watch not being able to sync the data once the OS of the phone has been updated?

@tessierp I was wondering, if the AI is still watching, would it "learn" that I like the Fitbit app if I opened it more regularly?  Would it upgrade its importance do you think?  Like I said I rarely used the app itself, just the background sync.

Since I can't reliably turn off the Adaptive Battery, maybe use it to my advantage LOL?
