Fitbit Update: 3/6/19
Hello everyone!
We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.
First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.
Then, disable battery limitations:
Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

Hey Everyone!
Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).
For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here.
We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.
I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.
Fitbit Update: 9/26/18
Hey everyone!
Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation. We are aware of the issue and working with Google on a solution.
I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.
Fitbit Update: 9/10/18
Hi, everybody!
Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.
When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.
Fitbit Update: 8/19/18
We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.
Thanks for your patience!
Fitbit Update: 8/11/18
Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by the Community Forums.
Seems like many of you who updated to Android Pie (9.0) are now having trouble syncing your Fitbit trackers. I'm going to escalate this to our team so they can look into it.
In the meantime, please update the Fitbit app to version 2.76.1 if you haven't yet. Let me know if that changes the syncing behavior. Please follow this thread for updates. I'll keep you all posted here!

I was right to be skeptical. On my Pixel 3, after the April update, the Fitbit app says the sync with my Ionic will start soon, and then it never actually syncs...which I understand has been a failure mode for Fitbit's app for a long while.

And now we're right back to "Bluetooth issues" once again. No improvement whatsoever. Again.
Also, tapping "restart Bluetooth" turns Bluetooth off... but doesn't turn it back on again, so I just get stuck at "Please wait..." forever until I manually turn Bluetooth back on.
One thing that did change is that restarting Bluetooth never used to work at all, and I always had to cycle Airplane mode. Now turning Bluetooth off and back on again actually does work. Or at least it worked once.

@ChipChargeFitbit Charge 3 paired to my Pixel 3, running on April 2019 patch
I updated it a few days ago, and it is still working fine
Previously I had to switch my WiFi completely off (even disabled the automatic on mode) to get it sync (relatively more) reliably. Now it works even when my WiFi is on.
The app seems to do both fetching data from the tracker, AND sending them to the server when a sync is requested. It would be nice to have a separate progress indicator for each of them so we know which process went wrong, whether it is the reading from tracker part is failing, or the sending to the server is failing. At the current state, we wouldn't really know. Would an inaccessible server cause the sync to fail too?

Those troubleshooting steps don't fix the problem for me. I'm using a Galaxy S8 on TMobile that I just updated to Android Pie. I get zero notifications on my Versa.

My versa is receiving some texts, but not many and most of the notifications are about an hour late. My phone is constantly trying to sync though and it just won't. It's drained my phone from the app trying to sync all day. Ridiculous. I'm also on an s8. My battery will usually last from 9am-11pm without a problem, 2pm today and it ran out of battery completely. I really hope they fix this soon. I have all day sync turned off but it's still doing it. Is yours doing that also?

Eight (8) months have passed since my Fitbit Zip stopped syncing with my Pixel One (1) after the Android Pie update on August 6, 2018. Eight (8) months have passed and Fitbit has done nothing to resolve the issue. Eight (8) months have passed and Google has done nothing to resolve the issue. I've tried every proposed solution and work around listed on this thread and NONE provide a permanent workable solution. After eight (8) months, I'm not confident the sync issue will be ever fixed. Seems I and possibly many others have been abandoned by both Fitbit and Google... and you know what I got to say about that....

I got my sync working in Feb this year, using the steps I posted on this forum and it worked until the latest Fitbit app update then my Ionic and Nokia 8 started to sync partially with steps, HRM and notifications working. Sleep and exercise were not syncing. I followed my previously-posted steps and I can't get the phone and watch to connect again and even more annoyingly, the watch is now randomly 16 mins slow. I contacted Fitbit 'support' to see if they could offer any support - of course not, still loads of polite words but useless support. What's the point with Fitbit.

My wife's Charge HR 2 has been essentially useless since the upgrade to Pie came through on her Nokia in January.
Which is a shame, as she got the Charge 2 for Christmas and it worked 'properly' for about 2 weeks until Pie came out.
I used to recommend Fitbit products but after this I'm not. The two possibilities are, that they [Fitbit] are incompetent or that they don't care even one little bit about their customers. Which doesn't look good either way. This has been going on for months.

Hello everyone.
Thanks for continually sharing your experience and feedback on the matter.
@harpingon , @MaureenGromala, @K8eBizarro, and @Shultgren If you have not, please try to follow the steps listed in here. They should help you in getting everything to sync as they have been useful for some users. Do let us know how it goes after trying those steps.
We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

The 3/6/19 troubleshooting tips did not work for me. Syncing issue still exists.

After reading through multiple threads from users all experiencing the same issue, it is almost comical that Fitbit support continues to post the same useless troubleshooting tips. Sync is broken and has been since the release of Android 9 (Pie). Is Fitbit even trying to find a solution?

When I updated my Samsung S9 phone to Android Pie, syncing to my fitbit zip stopped working. So it sounds like an issue between Pie and the fitbit app, rather than a phone issue. Fortunately, I have a tablet running an older version of Android OS, so I can still sync. I've been using a fitbit since 2014 and gradually support for devices I own has dropped. I can't sync on my Mac or my Ubuntu Linux box.

Same as (*gasp*) everyone else. The April update from Google does not fix Fitbit's syncing issue.
I am using a Zip and Pixel XL phone.

Zip does not sync to S9 running 9.0. So far all of the suggestions from FitBit have been the generic, restart, reinstall recommendations that would be the basic steps you would take with any device that you are having problems with. I have tried all of the suggestions that users have posted, most did not work for me, some did work for a couple of syncs but I am thankful that people are willing to share. FitBit will from time to time say they are aware of the problem and are working on it but never share any details ( ie investigating Bluetooth compatibility, possible conflict with other devices etc) which makes me wonder just how much effort is really being put in to this. Why not have one of the programmers who is working on this interact with users on this forum? But then again they already have got our money. What is most egregious and perhaps most telling about the corporate culture is I have yet to see anything from FitBit, in their marketing or elsewhere that advises against upgrading your OS to Android 9.0 (Pie). If you check device compatibility on the website it also does not alert you to the fact that there is a known issue. Personally I think they are making a mistake by abandoning users of their products but somewhere along the line a risk/reward analysis has likely been made. After this length of time I really see little reason for hope.

It is very clear that zero effort is being put into this. The problem is simple to replicate and from there work to a real diagnosis. The fact that we keep getting told to do ridiculous, unhelpful things that "might" work indicates that the company has put in no effort whatsoever into figuring out where their actual problem is.

My Garmin Vivoactive had no issues syncing with this. I got this Versa and my phone updated to PIE the same day. I have had nothing but trouble with it!

NOTHING except removing the battery EVERY time works...its a joke, and these "try this" suggestions from support are too. Nothing but stall tactics. It became apparent from as far back as this thread goes that a solution is not coming. Support at one point told me to sync to another device. Well my only other device is my work computer...and I would like to be able to sync away from work.
My Garmin arrives tomorrow! I can't wait! So I suppose I have solved my problem with syncing. My FitBit is useless to me if I can't sync to my phone.

Same as others. Fitbit zip do not sync with Samsung S8 since update to 9.0 (Pie): pairing impossible but see zip.
But my phone Bluetooth works with my car radio.
So think Fitbit apps need a update.
