Fitbit Update: 3/6/19

Hello everyone!

We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.

First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.

Then, disable battery limitations:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Fitbit app > Advanced > Battery > Battery optimization
  2. Change view to All apps
  3. Search for Fitbit app
  4. Choose Not optimized

Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.

Fitbit Update: 10/3/18

Hey Everyone!

Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).

For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here

We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.

I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.

Fitbit Update: 9/26/18

Hey everyone!

Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation. We are aware of the issue and working with Google on a solution.

I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.

Fitbit Update: 9/10/18

Hi, everybody!

Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.

When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.

Fitbit Update: 8/19/18

We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.

Thanks for your patience!

Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by the Community Forums. Smiley Happy

Seems like many of you who updated to Android Pie (9.0) are now having trouble syncing your Fitbit trackers. I'm going to escalate this to our team so they can look into it.

In the meantime, please update the Fitbit app to version 2.76.1 if you haven't yet. Let me know if that changes the syncing behavior. Please follow this thread for updates. I'll keep you all posted here!

I finally gave up and just filled out the return information and printed the shipping label. On top of Fitbit making a defective product that I have to return, they're charging me $7 for return shipping!!!!! Way to lose customers!

This message is from March. Do you really not have a fix??? Your advice only works the first time you try it. Once you try and sync again, it doesn't work. I can't imagine you think we will just keep reinstalling, or? Please advise. I'm frankly tired of not having Fitbit on my Android device.

Does anyone know of a lawyer that would be interested in litigating a class
action lawsuit? Fitbit is selling products that do not work as advertised,
the evidence being this thread. I would think it would be open and shut,
and we'd all get a check.

They delete all posts related to any kind of lawsuit.  This post won't last long.

I think you are being disingenuous by asking us to try these syncing solutions when you know full well it's an issue with Android 9 and nothing else. Please either tell us you are not supporting Android 9 or post a real solution.

IMO, it's not an Android 9 issue because my Blaze synced up just fine. It's a design or implementation flaw related to the Versa and newer models

Well my fitbit zip which is a vintage device worked perfectly until my phone decided to upgrade to android 9 a month ago. I would say alot but certainly not everyone trying to sync with an android 9 phone have been having issues for several months ago, seeing complaints going back to august of last year.

EXACTLY!
This is definitely a Fitbit issue. A zip has 1 purpose, it's a pedometer.
That's it. No notifications, no texting, no phone calls. Just count
steps and synch.

A friend of mine has a Blaze and Google Pixel 3XL which works flawlessly.  So I don't think it's an Android Pie issue.  There is something in the Versa that just doesn't work with Pie.

I have a Versa and it works fine with Pi on a Pixel IIXL, if I keep only 2 things paired with Bluetooth. Occasionally I have to restart my phone or unpair and repair on my phone, not just start and restart Bluetooth.
A pain, but I love using my Versa

Zips won't synch either.

Spoiler
Nope zips dont synch. The fitbit revommended solution, take the battery out and put back in before each synch  OR  Synch on another device such as a windows desktop or laptop. Fitbit it seems has no intent on fixing this. They apparently would rather sink their time and resources and $ luring others into buying their devices and growing their discontent user base.

I have an Alta HR and my phone is a Samsung Galaxy A6. I just received the update to Android 9 a week ago. Ender since then, I can't receive texts or call life on the Alta. It worked just fine before the update. I still get data from the Alta such as my sleep and heart info (but not real time synced heart rates). Disappointed that fitbit can't figure this out.

I can only get my charge 2 to sync if left on the continuous sync setting and even then I'll sometimes get a message to say it can't pair.

I no longer get phone call or text messages coming through to the Fitbit device despite the settings being correct.

As for removing the battery - this is impossible on the charge 2 as it is built in and I am not going to break into the device. The same with my phone.

I just replaced my S7 with the S10. My tracker is the Surge. The S10 had no issues connecting to the tracker. All features are working as expected.

Hi

My Fitbit Charge 2 is still not syncing! Had my last sync in January just before updating my Phone to Android 9.0 Pie and it has not Worked ever since. So I put it in shelf and had a different watch as a replacement...

Now I am trying to revive my Fitbit to use it again. Tried all the settings on my Xiaomi Mi A1 phone (Android 9) to no avail (battery, optimisation, permissions etc.).

After long hours of research tried Fitbit Connect App on my Macbook Pro (MacOS Mojave 10.14.5). Sync fails here as well. Do not know if this is related issue, but could be something with firmware of Fitbit Charge 2?

Finally I tried to "Add a new device" option on Fitbit Connect app and finally some progress - it actually synced! At least I got my tracking information out of the device and got the clock set to correct time! So it is possible to sync it! Later on I tried to repeat the same steps, but this time also adding a new device failed with "Could not establish connection". Then I noticed that my Fitbit shows as a connected device - I quickly disconnected it and received a pairing request with 4 digit code on my Fitbit. But it failed to keep a connection. After lot and lots of "Try Again" attempts I finally was able to repeat my success and got my tracker synced again! Then I tried to use Sync feature and also was able to make a successful sync!

Summary:

Android app - sync still not working, no settings help

Fitbit Connect on Mac - also not working, but on some rare occasion it is possible to establish a connection  and do a sync...

Hope this helps and some developers are able to reproduce and finally solve the issue!

Namaste!

I gave up, paid the $7 FedEx return fee and my headaches with the Versa and Android are done. I'll use my Blaze until it dies and then reconsider what comes next. I really doubt Fitbit is doing anything to fix this. On this website all we get is something like thanks for the feedback and we're working on it..... for months and months. I suspect they're really working on newer models and we're toast. I refuse to spend $1000 on a new phone so my $200 Fitbit will work!
