Fitbit Update: 3/6/19
Hello everyone!
We have some updated troubleshooting suggestions we'd like for all of you on Android Pie (9.0) to try.
First, turn off Background Restrictions/Limitations: Phone settings > Apps & Notifications > Fitbit app > Background restrictions or Background limits.
Then, disable battery limitations:
Please give the steps above a try to improve syncing with your Fitbit device and Android 9.0 OS. We're still researching and testing out long-term solutions to this ongoing syncing issue. We thank you for all your patience while we continue to work on this effort.
Fitbit Update: 2/14/19

Fitbit Update: 10/3/18
Hey Everyone!
Our team is still working on implementing a longterm fix for syncing with Android devices on Pie (9.0).
For the background syncing issue, I have posted an update in the other floated thread which you can find here.
We released Fitbit for Android version 2.80 today which contains improvements for that syncing issue.
I'll make sure to keep you all updated with more information, as soon as I have it available. We're still working on this and I really appreciate everyone's patience.
Fitbit Update: 9/26/18
Hey everyone!
Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation. We are aware of the issue and working with Google on a solution.
I will continue to provide updates here, so keep an eye on this thread.
Fitbit Update: 9/10/18
Hi, everybody!
Thanks for your patience while our team continues to work on improving syncing for those on Android Pie (9.0). They are actively working on this and for the time being, I recommend you keep the Fitbit app updated on the latest version for best syncing results. Right now that is version 2.78, so if you're not on this version please update! Also, another troubleshoot we recommend is performing a restart on your phone.
When there are more improvements made in the future I'll announce them here. Stay tuned and subscribed to this thread.
Fitbit Update: 8/19/18
We have escalated these syncing issues for those who are now using Android Pie (9.0) to our team for investigation. There aren't any updates at the moment, but rest assured we will keep you informed in this thread when more information is available.
Thanks for your patience!
Fitbit Update: 8/11/18
Hi, everyone! Thanks for stopping by the Community Forums.
Seems like many of you who updated to Android Pie (9.0) are now having trouble syncing your Fitbit trackers. I'm going to escalate this to our team so they can look into it.
In the meantime, please update the Fitbit app to version 2.76.1 if you haven't yet. Let me know if that changes the syncing behavior. Please follow this thread for updates. I'll keep you all posted here!

I'm having the same issue with both my Charge 2 & 3. I'm pretty annoyed the the new app didn't make any changes to this at all. Unless they get their stuff together, I'm going elsewhere once these 2 die.

The thing is, even if they do get this worked out, it'll just happen again. I've been using Fitbit products since 2010 and this has happened with every single one of them. When they first came out with the Ionic, there were a ton of sync issues that they eventually fixed. It even became a somewhat reliable device. Then Android P came out and it all fell apart again. Even if they get the issues with Android P worked out, what's going to happen when Android Q sees wide release?
I've stuck with Fitbit because of the years of accumulated data that I have. Even if this thing starts working 100% (and let's face it, it won't), I am done with them when my Ionic dies.

@Rich_Laue, it's always nice to see you here, and thanks for your great help!
Fitbit is aware of the syncing issues experienced after updating to Android 9, and they're working to identify a resolution as quickly as possible. I'm sorry that you've gone through this situation, and appreciate your efforts while troubleshooting your devices. While I don't have a time frame when this will be resolved, I'll update this thread once I have more details.
@ZINZIN, @Jenmorrell1618, @reggert, @SunsetRunner and @jerseystar, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. We've not forgotten to our Zip users, and thanks for staying with us over the years. Although this model was discontinued, we'll continue providing support to any user that has issues with it.
For anyone else that is having this situation, I'd recommend to try the troubleshooting steps from this help article, which have worked for other users. Also, as mentioned by @RicardoFitbit, make sure your device is a fully supported device, to have the Fitbit app updated and turn off other Bluetooth connections when not in use.
If you need anything else, feel free to let me know.

The biggest issue I see is that not everyone, probably only a relative few or having issues.. This will complicate the process in that it could be as simple as a single second app causing the issue.why does it work on most? what is different? why does the S9 work fine for many but not all?
I've had an account since 2013 and in general every update works a little better than the last one. At least until last December. In January it got so bad I rolled back to the November release. The end of February, to participate in a beta test I was forced to go back to the beta app. Since then it has been getting better and I can not remember the last time I had a sync issue.
Yes I'm on Android 9 and the first thing I did was remove the app and install a fresh copy.

Legend. Fitbit support kept me 40 minutes before syaing it was a problem with my Nokia 8. Never mentioned Android 9. Your solution worked first time around.

This is still very frustrating Lizzy, especially when moderators continue to drop in every few weeks with the same messaging over and over. its been almost a year now since these problems were reported. Honestly i am not sure i believe it when you say ftibit is actively working on these issues, does feel very disingenuous. I would like to hear from actual Fitbit developers on this thread with specifics on what they doing to resolve. If its not going to be fixed or nobody is working on it just say so.

Rich, the second my phone upgraded to Android 9 in April it stopped syncing.
I certainly never said or even implied its the majority of users having these issues. Its clear we an in the minority. , However, after scanning many fitbit social media sites and communities for the 2 months, in my opinion appears to be more than just a relative few.
Begin an IT developer i get how things work and get programmed. If i was given this problem to solve a year ago, is pretty clear to me by now I would have either solved it or not. Makes no sense how after a year they are still working on it.
You seem very knowledgable about the issue and fitbit products in general. I appreciate all the help and feedback you provide on this community. What would honestly suggest to someone like me whose fitbit zip has not synced to their android phone since april and has tried EVERYTHING that has been suggested and recommended so far?

ZINZIN, agree. I also was asked to be more positive as well as many of my posts were deleted. Maybe i crossed the line a bit on my frustrations but sure seems like alot of lip service at this point.

An update.
Hi guys, it's me again. I just wanted to give you an update after a week of my first post my Fitbit is working better than before (I have notifications now). The app is still working even after I updated to the latest version a few days ago.
I'm attaching some screenshots of my phone and Fitbit app.

ZINZIN, i have a samsung S8 phone running android os G950 (pie) last updated 6/1/19, fitbit zip firmware v5.90, fitbit app v3. Ever since my samsung S8 phone upgraded in late april i cannot sync. The exception to that is if i take my zip battery out and put it back in, it will sync 1 time. Otherwise i need to sync with my windows laptop when i am home.

I lost synch ability in April when I was forced to update. My Zip has not synched once since then. I spent the better part of April and May on the phone with Samsung and Fitbit to no avail. I even drove up to a youbreakifix place to try and unupdate. (is that a word?) I am so frustrated. I am tired of someone from the company stopping in every month or so and tell us to do the same thing. (definition of insanity) If it worked, do you think this page would have new issues DAILY?
I have requested a contact person so that I could run things by and Fitbit refuses to give out any information and just continue to have a forum admin stop by. UGH

I refused to update my phone to android pie for 8 months now on my Note8. Everything worked flawlessly until 2 days ago. Now my versa does not sync with my phone, there is no notifications.
Anyone with same issue?

Hi @ZINZIN, @reggert and @Leito84, I'm glad to see you here again. @gpq1971 and @Nazliii, welcome to the Forums. @Rich_Laue, thanks for being here to help our users.
@reggert, thanks for getting back. I understand your position, and I'm sorry about our delayed responses. @ZINZIN, I appreciate your feedback. The troubleshooting steps asked you to perform was to confirm that everything has been exhausted as they've worked for other users, and I apologize if this caused any inconvenience. While I don't have more details or a time frame when this will be resolved; our team will keep receiving your feedback, and I'll post any update once I receive more information.
@gpq1971, thanks for joining the conversation. I've verified that your Nokia 8 isn't part of our supported devices list yet, and this will impact the way your Fitbit device communicates when syncing. Please try using a different device that appears in the said list, to confirm whether the issue is related to your phone or the Android version.
@Leito84, thanks for the screenshots provided, and I'm glad that everything seems to be working now. I appreciate you for sharing this update.
@Nazliii, thanks for letting me know about your Versa, as well sharing your phone's model. Currently your Samsung Galaxy Note 8 isn't part of the supported devices list. While it may not always work, could you please try the steps from this help article?
Keep me posted.

I have a Note 8 that worked absolutely fine until Android P got on it, and it's been downhill ever since. This phone has been out for almost two years and has been around longer than the Ionic. The Note 4, Note 5, and Note 9 are all on the list. Why isn't the Note 8 on the list? This makes no sense at all.
I don't understand this company at all.

Sony Xperia XA2 on Android 9 Pie paired with a Charge 2 and sync works fine. Call notifications stopped working the day I upgraded to Android 9. Notifications worked fine on Android 8 on the same XA2.
I replaced my Charge 2 with another new one for unrelated reasons and the issue remains with the new one too.
I've done everything in the KB and the pinned posts on this thread. Fitbit support closed my ticket straight away saying the XA2 isn't on their supported device list, and get this, I should consider buying a phone that is! They can jog on.

Tried to pair my Inspire HR to Samsung S9 (with Android 9) yesterday, failed. The phone cannot find the device. However, iPhone 7 found the band right away. Tried again today 7/16/2019. Nothing changed. No reinstall the app. No setting changes. Open the Fitbit app on Samsung, poped question to ask me whether I would like to finish my Inspire HR setup, click on Yes, found the band right away. Don't know what did the trick. Maybe close the app restart it? I don't know. Hope this helps.
By the way, contacted the Fitbit support 1 hour ago, has been informed the issue with Android 9 is not solved yet. I guess it just depends on the case by case. Hope the sync will be fine.
