Android Fitbit app not tracking food and calories intake

I've had an issue for a few months now where my logged food doesnt accurately show up on the main screen icon, and instead have to open the full food log to view my calories.

Starting yesterday, the food log is not displaying my calories at all after adding them. Hours later, they might show up, along with all my other attempts to log my food. It's been a mess, and I've had to resort to just writing it all down.

Customer Support told me to log out, restart my phone, log back in, and try logging. That didn't work. Then they said to uninstall the app and reinstall the app. That didn't work either. I'm still having this issue today, and it's quite frustrating because it's like the main thing I use this app for.

Is this some bug that just needs addressed in an update? My app is up to date, having an update done two days ago. Anyone else having this issue?

Edit: I would like to add that this only seems to affect the quick calories input. Any specific measured food I add seems to show right up, but since I use quick calories throughout most of the day, I cant accurately track my food anymore.

I've been a dedicated customer of Fitbit for a long time myself (since 2015). But this whole fiasco is making me reconsider my options, despite having my time and data being heavily invested into their ecosystem. I'll probably encourage everyone else I know to do the same.

I have been having the same problem for a while now and i did as someone suggested: log out from the app, update the app and login again and now all of my food entries are gone. The app is empty and i have lost all of my data.
This is unbelievable

Yeah, wish we could mark later responses as the Accepted Solution. But alas, for everyone finding this, please, please, please do not uninstall/reinstall, log out, or clear your app data. That is a sure-fire way to lose your data, as we have all discovered.

Are you telling me that all the food data is gone for good and there is no way to recover it? I have been tracking it on this app for years, i refuse to believe they're gettig away with this

Best Answer

Only the stuff logged since the problem started will be lost. For most people here, that's about 1-2 months of food logs. Sorry about the confusion.

After following steps from support by logging out, uninstall and reinstall all my data was gone. When I asked for restore she said yes, then emailed indicating she could not restore my data

Yes you will lose all your data if you uninstall then reinstall, or log out clear cache and log back in

To clarify about the lost data - you will lose any data logged via the mobile app since the issue began a couple months ago if you log out and/or re-install. This is because the data is stored in memory of the app but not syncing to the server. When you log out, that memory is cleared so anything not synced to the server is lost. You should not lose any data that was logged and synced prior to when the issue began.

Yeah... that is the general consensus that I've gathered from all the posts here, that you will lose food logs since the problem started. If complete food logs are lost, I would expect that is likely a very different issue from the one in this thread.

So done with fitbit.
Using nutracheck app, works great.

As others have stated, wish I could get a refund.

I logged out, and logged back in and I only lost today's input. I did lose
the custom foods, but that's because I had deleted them off the server
before based on another posts suggestion. That did not bother me that much.
I am going to hold off on subscribing to premium until I see if this update
really fixed the issue. I like the premium, but it's not worth it if it's
going to mess up again.

Yeah, this is definitely not Premium-worthy functionality. They're not going to get any more of my money until/unless this is actually fixed.

I assure you, it didn't fix it. You would have lost your custom food even
if you didn't delete it first.... I did it at least 10 times before I gave
up

I lost data back to May 19 after  June7,  3.60 update uninstall/reinstall (suggested by Support). I now have 3.62 and no way am I going to uninstall/reinstall!!! I have typed this info so many times now my phone auto suggests the sentences 🙄

-------

Yes! Any uninstall/reinstall  or log out/log in wipes my data back to May 19.  My frequent and recent foods stopped changing as of May 19 as well.

My husband's app seems to auto-update, and is on 3.62. Mine is stuck on 3.59 and nothing seems to make it update (including uninstalling and resinstalling from the play store). Any way to force this to update?

Thank you for sharing this update SlimJim16v

I have been depending on the week-at-a-glance and daily views to figure out total daily calories since the totals are not adding up on the main page or saving to the Fitbit.com website.
Is there something else in these detailed views that is also not adding up calories too?

As it appears that the latest update hasn't fixed the problem I turned off auto update and will wait for a version that works. Will stick with 3.59 where my only issues are not being able to create new custom meals in the app and periodically a syncing issue between food log and food tile. I have found ways to work around these two issues (previously posted). Unlike others I have not lost any custom foods and my recent and frequent lists update normally. My history both on the app and web dashboard is back to day 1 in 2016. I just find it strange that everyone is having different issues with the same app. The only differences are the make of phone and phone software version and the type of fitbit device. The latter shouldn't impact food logging. I am still hoping for a solution.

I updated the app today to 3.62 and the logged calorie tile on the dashboard is now showing up and accurate, however the "nutrients" page is still calculating way off. I deleted all my custom foods, then deleted and reinstalled the app hoping that would help, but it did nothing. Getting tired of this as I just want to make sure I'm getting adequate nutrition while not overdoing sugar/fat. Isn't this basically just a calculator function? I don't understand why it's so hard to fix this.

Why should we have to delete our custom foods? I have hundreds!

I don't think you have to, I was just following one of the earliest posts.
I really didn't have anything I could live without.
