After reading a Friend's messages, the count number for Unread messages goes down. But when I reopen App, it has the same four messages listed as Unread. Have tried re-reading them. Tried restarting phone.
Suggestions?

Hello @sdtd, nice to see you are visiting the Fitbit Community! Certainly this behavior is unusual although the messages are not deleted, shouldn't show as unread if you have read them already.
In this case I would like to suggest the following steps: please log out from your Fitbit app and go to your phone settings. Access to the App manager option and look for the Fitbit app in your downloaded apps list. Once you are there, clear the app cache and data and proceed to "Force Stop" the app. Finish the workaround by restarting your phone. When your phone has initialized, go back to your app and try again.
Hope this helps and let me know how it goes.

Robertofitbit, thank you for your suggestions. I went through the process to clear the four persistent messages. Unfortunately it did not work.
Will keep trying in hopes I don't have to go through the full uninstall process. 😉

I am now having this same issue, and have done this too. I also have I can only reply to 3 messages & then it won't let me, sometimes until 2 days later.
When I get a new message, I get told all my messages are unread, and get the same in my versa

Hi there @Carpbud, good to see you around and my apologies for the late response. I'm wondering if the issue still persists. Certainly that you are not able to reply more than 3 messages is not a normal behavior of the app.
Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the Fitbit app in case the issue persists? In case you haven't, give it a try.
Also I'm wondering if this is happening with in app notifications or with Text / Call notification feature? Note this are two separate sections of your app. So if this is happening in your Versa too with Text / Call notifications, try this help article section: Set up notifications again.
Catch you later until the next opportunity.

I have begun to have this same issue. I have the Ionic and a Google Pixel 2XL
When I launch the fitbit app it shows that I have messages. There are four messages in my inbox: Three from May 10th and one from May 9th. The message indicator will say either 1 or 2 for new messages. I have tried the following:
1. Launching each message
2. Force closing the app
3. Clearing the app cache and force closing the app
4. Clearing the app cache, force closing the app and then restarting the phone
5. Signing out of the app and signing back in
The problem has occurred intermittently since May 10th - but at least once per day since that time.

I have three that will non go away from last month from someone I unfriended anyway. So irritating. Why no delete?

I have the same issue. Several times a day, I see the new message icon in the notification tray of the Android app, but it's always the same old message. I did the logout, force stop, restart thing and it then said that I had 99 new messages when I logged back in, but still that one old message

I had the same issue, 6 notifications appear in the "Friends" tab, nothing I read here and in other forum posts worked: re-reading the messages, logging out and clearing cache + force stop, etc.
But just before I started posting this, I tried tapping on one message, then I chose "Write a message", then went back to the dashboard without actually sending anything, and all 6 notifications disappeared. Hope it lasts, though 🙂

I’ve had this issue for the better part of a week now.
One time I looked I had a new friend request randomly, but even that didn’t clear the indicator.
SUPER annoying!

Most frustrating! In fact, not sure which is more frustrating... the messages that keep popping up as new or the lack of help from Fitbit. Please, Fitbit support, help us.
Thank you.

There was an update about 4 days ago on IOS and ever since then I’ve always got an unread message notification inside the app only. It’s crazy annoying, especially since you can’t delete messages, and I’ve tried logging out/reinstalling the app etc. I think there was a bug in the new update I wish Fitbit would rectify!! Or respond to someone in this thread 😕

OMG, this has been plaguing me as well and I found an answer on another forum that worked!!
"Try rebooting your tracker by pressing and holding the left and bottom right buttons until Fitbit logo flashes."
I did that and lo and behold the notification was gone- hope this helps!

Bugger...I totally thought I was going to win the internet for the day. There must be multiple issues since this fix worked with mine but not yours....that's highly annoying. Best of luck, I hope you find an answer.
