How to see average sleep hours and not sleep score

Does anyone know how can I  get the average sleep Hours back where it was I find the fitbit sleep score totally  useless. I had 5 hours 40 min sleep got a sleep score of 82 rated good "what the ?" How could that possibly be a good nights sleep!!!.  I just want to know my average hours for the week back where it was instead of the useless sleep score.

@LizzyFitbit My device is a Flex 2. Looking at the specs, it evidently does not track heart rate. If the app engineers have written the update to only give the average hours feature to devices that track heart rate, then that would explain why it isn't showing up on my phone anymore.

 

I find it hard to believe it's that difficult for them to provide a simple toggle between the old and new display. After all, the data IS still there. I can log in to my account on a computer and still see the week to week comparisons, just like I used to see on my phone app. I really do hope you share all of our feedback with them, because it seems like they've created a huge mess, and a lot of disgruntled and angry customers, for no worthwhile reason.

Thanks @LizzyFitbit for at least getting back to us.

 

I really hope this gets patched soon, otherwise I'm going to sell my fitbit and look elsewhere.

 

Also, I wish the app would remember which graph we looked at last.  I hate how you have to swipe back to the sleep stages every time you open the app.

Thanks for the inputs Lizzy, we appreciate it. The average sleep information you describe looks to be only for a rolling 7 days at a time. There's nowhere that I can see to compare week-over-week data.  You can scroll left and capture different 7-day windows but it's pretty laborious and doesn't replace the feature taken away.  Frankly I don't want to spend that much time on the app, just want to get it at a glance and move on, just like we did before the update.

The issue is that devices that don't have heart rate tracking, like my Flex 2, have a broken user experience in the app. We are not presented with the sleep graph showing stages because it isn't tracked. For this reason, we cannot swipe to a nonexistent screen to still see average weekly hours. As someone else mentioned, the third screen now is a bar graph just showing Time Awake. Our sleep scores now show 0 for each week. Was this a known bug that was released to the entire base as an attempt to force us to upgrade to new devices? Because now sleep tracking data is mostly useless on the Flex 2. Soon I will be in the market for a new device, and may have to look at another company.

Uhhg. My Fitbit app has been updated and is now showing the SleepScore. I was looking forward to this, not for the SleepScore itself (which doesn't really bother me) but for the improvements in sleep tracking and additional metrics. The new interface for the sleep pages is just awful, tho; it's not the least bit intuitive and very frustrating to use. And having to pay extra for metrics that others provide for free is extremely irritating.

 

FitBit really needs to look at what Beautyrest is doing with their SleepTracker app. Theirs displays a sleep stages graph as well as graphs for heart rate and breathing rate on a single page with a breakdown of the metrics below it and a graphical summary of the week below that. You can view these same graphs and metrics for any day as well any week, any month, and any year. It's easy to use and understand, unlike the horrid mess that is now FitBit's sleep metrics.

@LizzyFitbitwhat do you think provides a good user experience? Even if too many options are annoying, too, you need to at least provide a user to choose what they need. Apparently, many people enjoyed the Average Sleep Hours stats, so did I, and became upset when that feature got hided, hard to find. On the other hand, for me also, the Sleep Score stats are useless when a device used cannot track the heart rate and gives always 0 avg. I think this is a valid request from those who love Average Sleep Hours stats because there are all kinds of reasons why it has been useful to users. Please make this stat available again by giving an option at least to choose to show either Average Sleep Hours or Sleep Score. This will make everyone happy because some people seems to love Sleep Score over Average Sleep Hours stats.

I understand how helpful was to see your weekly average time and a summary of your details at glance. As mentioned above, while there isn't an option to go back or choose the type of sleep detail that you want to see in the Fitbit app, our team will make sure to work on the app and it's performance based on your feedback.

 

@astralpictures and @Vindo, thanks for confirming that you have Flex 2 devices. As you have seen, the sleep stages will not be generated, however the weekly average time will still be displayed after maximizing the "Hours Slept Time " graph in the Fitbit app (see screenshots above). Now, if you're only getting one graph at the top, please share a screenshot of what is displayed in your Fitbit app so I can take a look into this. For instructions to attach a screenshot in your reply check this post.

Scroll across to Hours in Sleep Stages then full screen mode to get the average.

As noted by multiple members in previous replies, the weekly average is presented differently than before.  It is now a rolling time range, so at-a-glance comparisons of week-over-week data are not possible.  Weekly average sleep score, which is arbitrary and not explained unless the user purchases additional software, has replaced the weekly average sleep time.

 

I do like reviewing the weekly data, so now I will have to grab the date ranges I want, one at a time, and dump the data into Excel weekly so I can have the same functionality Fitbit just took away.  It was nice having the data available at a 10 second glance... users are frustrated not so much because the current product is terrible, but more because a basic function they had relied on was taken away for no reason, while the data sits there and Fitbit chooses to not present it.

I do not see this info available at all in my IOS (mini iPad 4) app...all I get when I maximize the sleep hours screen is the bar graph for the last 7 days.

 

As a 75-year-old who struggles to get sleep, my personal sleep goal is to average 6 hours per night. That means that if I have a sleepless night, I need to try to get more sleep (w/naps) to achieve my minimum weekly goal. I rely on seeing the "average hours" as a motivator to keep trying to get enough sleep.

 

Since my sleep score will always be low, Fitbit is imposing information on me that will be constantly discouraging instead of allowing me to easily monitor my average hours of sleep and strive to meet the goal I can meet.

@BiggJ77   I would recommend you use your iPad (or another computer device) to go straight to fitbit.com and  log in to your FitBit account there. You will find the average hours slept per week is still accessible through your dashboard online. You can see the week-to-week history, just like you used to be able to see through the app. 

 

If Fitbit is like most other corporations in my experience, once they decide they're going to remove a feature, it's gone for good. No amount of complaining by their user base will budge them. I hope I'm wrong in this case, but we shall see. In the meantime, I would just give up on the app. Save your energy for more important things in life!

This is EXCELLENT advice, thank you Vindo.  I'd never logged into the website but the weekly average sleep info is right there, just not on the app.  Going to just delete the app and just keep an eye on the website periodically.

Disregard my previous posts on this topic, I tried to delete them or edit with this info instead, but could not see that option...after spending some time in the IOS Fitbit app, I have figured out a couple of things:

 

First, if I want to see the average hours for the week, I see that I will have to have my iPad set in portrait mode. Since I keep my iPad locked in landscape mode to work best overall, that means that if I want to see the average hours info, I will have to permanently change this setting on my iPad or else temporarily disable the lock setting each time I want to view the info. Tedious...and disappointing since up until now, the average hours displayed on the "This Week" line.

 

Second, for all of us Fitbit users who rely on seeing the average hours info (I use the info every day to guide me in planning naps to reach my average hours weekly goal), give us the option to choose a default sleep screen (either the sleep score screen or the hours slept screen), then have the average hours show on the this week line if the user has chosen the hours slept screen. I think maybe this would also allow my main today screen to display average hours instead of a discouraging sleep score.

 

Please understand that for someone like me--a 75-year-old who struggles to get any sleep at all (I have an average hours sleep goal of 6 hours and include lots of naps to try to achieve that goal)--if you have a default setting that forces me to view the sleep score (on the today screen and on the sleep tile), you are keeping info in front of me all the time that is discouraging instead of inspiring me to strive to achieve the goal I can achieve (the 6-hr. average).

 

I know that I can get the info I want in the web version, but wouldn't it be better to make this simple change in the IOS app so I won't have to do that?

It's clear that Fitbit is not concerned about the user experience. Fitbit is trying to sell a subscription. That's evident from the "sleeping heart rate" and the lock in front of it as well as "restlessness" and the lock in front of it. Then the link to "learn more." I understand a company wanting to make more money, but to use the "iPad game app" approach with locks on things people want to buy to play the game, was unwise. Your users are from a varied demographic. Cleary, Fitbit didn't do a good job on their market research. There are better ways to *sell* subscriptions without upsetting so many customers by downgrading their user experience. Whoever decided to make these changes didn't do their market research.

The sleep score explanation that you point us to is interesting, but it does not provide enough information to determine how we can improve our score. It doesn't really help to point out that sleeping more, getting more REM/deep sleep, and having a lower sleeping heart rate will improve the score. I could have guessed as much. If more useful information about how to improve one's sleep score is going to be provided only after one purchases a Fitbit Premium subscription, my suggestion is that you simply remove the sleep score altogether for those who do not subscribe.
