I was having the same issue as everyone else. The battery on my Galaxy S8+ was draining to the point I had to charge it 4 times a day. I was also getting notifications that Fitbit (the app) was using between 10%-15% CPU. Every time I went to force stop the app, it showed that it had used a ridiculous amount of battery since the last full charge.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the app this morning and since then I have not seen a significant power drain on the phone. Everything "seems" to be working as it should. I am going to continue to monitor what is happening, but it has been at least 4 hours and I would have had to charge it again by now if it was still having issues.

Interestingly, the fitbit app also somehow bypasses all internal Android settings for restricting background usage. I attempted toggle off the "Allow background activity" and "Allow background data usage" settings for the fitbit app and the app still seemed to wake itself up somehow. I think as part of the delivering notifications to the watch, it is able to operate in the "foreground" (to me that is still background and foreground should ONLY be when the app itself is open) but it didn't limit anything and usage was still extremely high.

I believe it's the app. I've had my versa for a couple months and have had zero problems until last week. Seems others say they're experiencing similar problems and they have the ionic. I've uninstalled the app and the battery isn't draining. Hoping they fix it soon so I can reinstall.

All,
I just saw an update in the Play Store to version 2.74.1. I uninstalled completely before pushing it and then just updated. It looks like it isn't trying to use data on its own anymore and the battery usage is very low. I'm throwing my phone on the charger and then going to go from full on this version and see what happens.
Here's hoping they nailed the bug down.

True - the battery prob on my Samsung Galaxy S8+ is huge - on the pixel 2 xl it's a normal behaviour. And what i see sometimes is a come and go notification (the GPS is active notification). It stays for 0.5 seconds and goes away, comes again, and so on ... often100 times repetitive. And my Samsung phone also tell me all the time, that the app has to be closed because of the "CPU usage" wich is always above 20%...
I'm pretty sure the battery draining is caused by the (often dumb) Samsung bloat.

They did say that there is a problem with the app and Android phones. They are working on this.

Hi, when can we expect an Update?? This is really not acceptable. I need to uninstall the App as battery is empty within 3-4 hours.

Hi Diana! You might want to check the Play Store for a pending update to the Fitbit app. Both my wife and I had an update to version 2.74.1 and from what I can tell, the app is no longer uploading a lot of data or killing my battery like it was. I think they may have either reverted to fix it for now or have found the issue and fixed it. Either way, I'm crossing my fingers.

I get normal values for battery and data use here using Charge 2 with a Huawei P8 mobile with all day sync.
Maybe the problem with draining of battery on mobile and fitbit devices has (can) been solved without any need for updating the mobile app by fitbit itself? And that the excessive mobile data usage reported is something that just happened in the past weeks (and no more)? Or at least it is a fitbit device specific problem.

I can't even send a bug report for app 2.74.1 (3193292) beta, "JSON not ready". Garbage.
Battery usage is still higher than in previous versions, without restrictions for the app. Data usage on Mobile connection went down, WLAN connection is still 500MB for two days.
Another issue when using Versa watchface and apps settings in Fitbit app is "can't find internet connection" every two taps. This happened before, in app 2.73, too.
