I have a fitbit Flex 2 and a G5 plus running nougat.

I can get it to sync reasonably ok with version 2.58 of the fitbit app.

I've tried several newer versions and I can't get them to sync.

I downloaded v 2.58 from apkmirror and then resigned the apk with zip signer (available on Google play).  This unlinked the fitbit app install from the Google play store so I'm not prompted to upgrade to a newer version.

Sounds like Fitbit knowingly left newer Android phones behind

Hi there @chrisdotpy and @azbowhuntn. Thank you for your feedback and I understand your concerns regarding the syncing issues.

@chrisdotpy Thank you for sharing with us that you downgraded the Fitbit app and is working. Nonetheless just keep in mind this is something we do not recommend, as some feature may stop working as they are intended.

@azbowhuntn, Rest assure the Fitbit app is compatible with more than 200 Apple, Android, and Windows 10 phones and tablets. We're continually adding more devices and improving our compatibility.

Thank you for you patience while we work to improve the Fitbit experience.

Hey @RobertoME, @azbowhuntn is right. You've left Android phones behind. You claim that there are 200 compatible phones but this is simply false. There are only 3 android phones released in 2016 or 2017 in that list!!!!!!!!!

I can confirm that after a bit of messing around, I can get a reasonably reliable sync from my Ionic to my Moto G5 Plus.

I rebooted the phone a couple of times, toggled bluetooth, etc.  Rebooted the watch twice too.

In the Ionic settings on the app, the options that work for me are:

  • All-Day Sync: Off
  • Always Connected: On
  • Keep-Alive Widget: Off

Everything seems to work well - so far!

Yes indeed, Fitbit seems to be conning it's customers.

I've just bought a Motorola Moto G6 Plus. This morning, after similar messing around (reboots of phone & watch, toggle bluetooth on/off etc) I did finally get them to pair up and sync - took about 2 hrs.

Have had a couple of successful syncs since, but only with yet more fiddling about.

Very disappointed with Fitbit. My older Charge 2 worked with no problems (paired with a Google Nexus 5), can't understand why they should introduce all this hassle with a newer product. Just for clarity: had exactly the same probs getting the Versa to work with the Nexus as well.

Did you do anything special to make it work?

Not particularly. I did have some trouble around the time of an update 2-3 months ago. Once I'd noticed that the time zone/location settings looked a bit odd and I changed that, it was OK. (I think maybe auto time zone was off or something and there didn't seem to be any way of the app knowing what time it was where I was to do a midnight cutoff???)

I also notice that if I let my phone battery go right down and it gets in panic mode the bluetooth mode seems to not be working even though in settings it says bluetooth is on. So if I've just plugged in to charge after its been low I turn the bluetooth off and back on again. Then it syncs.

Can't think of anything else right now.

Welcome to the Forums @Disappointed244. Hello @mousytrap.

Given that the Moto G5 is not part of the supported devices list we cannot confirm that it will work all of the time.

As long as it fulfills the minimum requirements, Android 4.4 and Bluetooth 4.0, there is a possibility that it can work but we cannot guarantee it. Some users of unsupported devices have mentioned that following these steps helps with the syncing.

If none of the above works, you could try to use a computer or another mobile device to try and sync your Fitbit to your account. Click here to get instructions on how to sync with other devices.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Good evening everyone,

I had a very hard time syncing my charge HR to my Moto G6 originally, however I think I may have found a solution for some people.

I have:

- Windows10 pc

- Fitbit USB dongle

- Fitbit Charge HR

- Motorola G6

Basically what I did was start over all of the hardware and uninstalled everything. The only thing I kept was my Fitbit account. Do not delete your Fitbit account!

After factory resetting the Fitbit in uninstalling the apps off of my PC and my Moto G6, I first installed the Windows 10 Fitbit app and set it up to force sync through the USB dongle that came with the Charge HR. After leaving it overnight it had updated successfully. I then reinstalled the Fitbit app from the Play Store, and everything began to sync up properly, even when my computer is turned off it syncs with my phone.

While it does not seem to give immediate information all the time, it does upload all my information to my account successfully. For the way I use my Fitbit this is just fine.

I hope this will help some people so they can start using their Fitbits again!

yes, sometimes that is necessary. can you tell me, does the fitbit you
have alert you when you have phone calls or text messages. that is the most
annoying problem i was having with my phone and the fitbit blaze i had.
