Fitbit Update: 5/3/18

Hi, everyone!

We released to 100% the next Fitbit for Android app update: 2.71. In this app version, we released the fix for this notifications issue. Please update your app!

You will see a new option in your Notifications Settings that reads "Vibration Settings," which is where you can toggle on/off if you want to receive notifications when your phone is set to Do not disturb or Silent mode.

I'm glad we could get this resolved for you all! Your patience was really appreciated.

Fitbit Update: 4/23

Hi all - Our team is currently working on a fix so you all can get your notifications back whenever in "Silent mode."

I don't know when the fix will be released but I will let you know once I have that information available. Thanks for your patience! Sounds like many of you are using the workaround to just put your phone on vibrate to the lowest setting. I appreciate everyone helping each other out and making suggestions for the time being.

Updated: 4/20

Hi, everyone!

Our team is aware of this Notification issue when you put your Android device in Silent mode. This began with the last app version 2.70.

If your phone is on Silent mode, notifications will not reach your watch/tracker. If you have silent mode off, your notifications will be received.

I will provide updates on this problem here. Please stay tuned! Thanks so much for your patience.

Hello - I have a Samsung Galaxy 8 and have been experiencing the same nuisance as you all with missed calls, etc.

I think I've solved it on my phone:

1.  Go to Settings --- Notifications

2.  Scroll down to Fitbit and make sure it's set to ON

3.  Go to --  Advanced (located in top right corner of screen)

4.  Scroll down to Fitbit and select it

5.  Turn on last option "Do not disturb custom exception"

Hope that helps.

L.

It would be nice if the watch would still give notifications even when the phone is silenced.  The idea of silencing the phone is to not disturb others when a call or text comes in, as during a meeting.  Even having the phone on vibrate is a bit annoying to others.  Having the watch give you a notice will keep the user in touch with communications but also keep it private.  As easy as it is to turn notifications on/off on the Ionic, this could be managed easily if one wants to eliminate any notifications at all.

I have been having this same issue. I have stopped wearing my fitbit since the most recent update due to the fact notifications are not being sent to my fitbit while using silent mode on a samsung galaxy 8. If the phone is on vibrate or ring the alerts come through.  This was not an issue until the most recent app update.

Is there a way to reverse the update, and go back to the old fibit app version prior to the change?

TANK YOU, - I was going mad about it!

Thanks for the suggestion, but that still didn't work. It makes sense why it didn't help. In this situation we don't have do not disturb on we just have the volume to none.

The solution to this should have been to understand your phone. There's a way to tell your phone that the fitbit is an exception to the DND setting. This didn't need to be incorporated into the app.

I hear you but the frustration is the time it is taking. It's been a week now. Doesn't seem like it should take your programmers more than a week to correct something that was working fine a few weeks ago. This is like the power company saying "Yea we see the powerline laying on the ground and we'll let you know when we reattach it." Then a week later it's still laying on the ground. This is making me concerned about Fitbit as a company. I am worried you are getting beyond to technical abilities. I'm a stockholder too. Has me concerned.

To everyone new to this thread . . . If you have the ability, turn your phone to vibrate and turn the vibration intensity to zero.  Make sure that your App Settings on your phone allow Fitbit to override DND.  This will allow you to get notifications. In phone app settings. Not Fitbit app settings. In phone app settings. Not Fitbit app settings.

The option in your first screenshot isn't availble for fitbit in my menu (Android 8.1)"Do not disturb custom exception", so it has to do something with the last update of the Fitbit app.

The DND exception is in your Phone's Notification Settings.  There are numerous windows to got through.  (I have posted my screen shots hoping they help someone.)

Pull up Notifications.

2  Go into Fitbit's notifications

3. Go into the uncategorized settings

4  Turn on DND

You really shouldn't have to do this anymore, but we are all just hedging our options.

I hope this helps a little.  The vibration intensity helped me with this last fiasco and the DND helped me with the first fiasco.  This started back in March.  Hard to imagine.  I guess Oreo messed up the program.

That's why we were notified through our fitbit because our phone was on silent.  I don't understand why you would change that.  If our phone was audible we wouldn't need the fit bit.  who thought this up?  Please change it back so we can use our fitbit as we did before.  Thank you.

No that is just the problem.  It does not vibrate or sound when in silent mode.  It just quit working and I am not impressed.
