Fitbit Update: 5/3/18
Hi, everyone!
We released to 100% the next Fitbit for Android app update: 2.71. In this app version, we released the fix for this notifications issue. Please update your app!
You will see a new option in your Notifications Settings that reads "Vibration Settings," which is where you can toggle on/off if you want to receive notifications when your phone is set to Do not disturb or Silent mode.
I'm glad we could get this resolved for you all! Your patience was really appreciated.
Fitbit Update: 4/23
Hi all - Our team is currently working on a fix so you all can get your notifications back whenever in "Silent mode."
I don't know when the fix will be released but I will let you know once I have that information available. Thanks for your patience! Sounds like many of you are using the workaround to just put your phone on vibrate to the lowest setting. I appreciate everyone helping each other out and making suggestions for the time being.
Updated: 4/20
Hi, everyone!
Our team is aware of this Notification issue when you put your Android device in Silent mode. This began with the last app version 2.70.
If your phone is on Silent mode, notifications will not reach your watch/tracker. If you have silent mode off, your notifications will be received.
I will provide updates on this problem here. Please stay tuned! Thanks so much for your patience.

This literally worked while my Samsung S6 was on silent 2 weeks ago, and there's been an update that makes it not work in silent mode?

Wednesday May 2nd and .... STILL ... oh forget it ... I give up. I just don't think Fitbit thinks this is a priority and I doubt they are even working on a fix any time soon. Honestly a college Computer Science major could fix this between afternoon classes. I give up. Going back to my Garmin VivoSport.

We know it was mentioned a week ago and nothing has been done since then. Thanks for the "update".

I hear you, but seriously this is going on 2 weeks. No excuse for how long it is taking. It shouldn't be that hard to correct since it has always worked before you updated the app. I love Fitbit, but I think you've lost a loyal customer in me due to this poor response. Garmin has zero issues with any android phone. I was going to get a Versa but this experience has me looking at the Garmin Vivoactive 3.

My texting app seems to be working this morning but not my phone when it rings. Is this to lead me to believe it is almost fixed??? I don’t want any false hope.

Just an FYI you're on the android apps board with a message sent from your iPhone. But that does support if it affects the iPhone too there should be a lot of upset people for an update that a week ago the team identified a fix and no progress has been made to get the fix actually fixed.

Hi there friends and thank you for the feedback @JonDavidL, I know it has taken more time that it was expected. However, I got news for all of you who are experiencing this issue.
Since yesterday, we started rolling out a new version of the Fitbit app for Android. This new version includes the fix for this error appearing in the notification section of the Fitbit app.
Make sure to install this new version and if the update is not in the Google Play store yet, review at a later time. This update will gradually appear to all our Android users. For more details please refer to our post: Android app version 2.71 is now available - 5/1
After the update, for better results, try to force quit the app or reset your phones.
See you later and thank you again for all your patience.

Also from my experience as just one user, it seems like the problem looks at both the ringtone volume and the notification volume separately for how to handle calls and texts respectively. So, if your ringtone volume has sound, then you will get calls on your fitbit. But if at the same time your notification volume is low you won't get texts and I assume calendar reminders, I don't use those on my phone with the fitbit. This is the situation for my night profile. I have a volume all be it a low one for calls and those come through. But my texts don't come through because my notification volume is to all 0. Hopefully this level of troubleshooting puts me at a Sr. Engineer level on the Fitbit staff lol

Thanks for the update. I hope this solves the problem. The Fitbit app user experience is the best out there (I'll admit better than Garmin's). I hope this corrects the issue.

I second RFB1. This was a great feature that I utilized to keep my phone from interrupting others.
The ability to have the phone completely silent, yet still receive notifications on my Fitbit has been greatly beneficial.
- Remove interruptions in my meetings
- Allows me to discretely receive messages from my family and review for priority
- Allows me to filter incoming calls and messages
- Provides me and my team the ability to focus without interruption in our open workspace

This is a very odd way of addressing the issues raised in this thread: "This new version includes the fix for this error appearing in the notification section of the Fitbit app." I have not yet received the update, but am wondering whether the underlying issue of notifications not working on silent mode has been fixed or if just the error message in the app has been removed.

What about this...anyone else getting it? Nothing makes it go away and work.
"Notification service not running. A phone restart is needed to enable notification"
I've restarted phone numerous times. Logged in and out of app...nothing works!!! This is for the reminder to move notifications. I usually get more than enough steps in time before its needed but I do want it to work just in case. I'm getting text and phone call notifications just fine. Thx!
