Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Compatibility

Just got the S8+ yesterday, but my Blaze no longer receives notifications from my device. I've reset the Blaze, removed it from my account, gone through setup, restarted the phone and Blaze, uninstalled the app, and every other troubleshooting recommendation on the forums. All permissions are granted. No luck. Everything else syncs. Is this just a compatibility issue?

Fitbit don't seem to give dates for things like this. I guess the answer depends on whether it can be made compatible. If it's a hardware problem then it won't be fixed. If it's a software problem that requires a change on the S8 then we need to wait for Samsung to fix it. If it's a software problem with fitbit then we can only hope that it will be fixed sooner rather than later.

There are a number of feature requests for S8 support. This one seems to have the most votes so far: https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Feature-Suggestions/Please-add-Galaxy-S8-S8/idi-p/1952851

Morning All,

Hopefully someone will be able to help me - I have my shiney new Samsung S8+ and have successfully connected my Fitbit Blaze. I have no issues whatsoever syncing my Blaze with my S8+, not sure if notifications work (as don't use them), but one annoyance I have is that I am unable to use the connected GPS for my runs (worked perfectly with both my old LG G4 & iPhone 6)!

This is very frustrating as today I completed a (what I know to be 2 mile) run and due to the failure of connected GPS I have no mapped route and it believes I only ran 0.94 miles 😞

Anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks Matt

Hi there @Mazza6059. Great to see you in the Forums! 🙂

At the moment, it seems that the Samsung S8+ has not been added to the list of compatible devices which means that it's not officially compatible. Though, it will work as in your case, there might be some features that are not ready to be used yet but I'd say that our team is already working on it.

Thanks for understanding. Anything else, I'm here to help!

Hi @Mazza6059

Same issues with my Moto Z; rest assured that Fitbit are doing nothing to add new devices to the compatibility list. Was using my LG G4 for a little while but will be syncing via PC for the foreseeable future.

Fitbit should be making whatever coding changes are required to be compatible with the S8; not Samsung.

Why would Samsung change code for a single app?

Garmin's app just works.

They haven't even added the Google Pixel; the flagship android device. Don't expect movement on the S8 front anytime soon.

@FerdinandFitbit thanks for the reply.

@Dragonfruit Hopefully you're not right on this 😞 and they are trying to get it added.

While I have the problem with the Connected GPS all my other functions work as they should - although battery drain is crazy!!

My fitbit battery is also draining quickly since I got the Galaxy8. I wondered if it was just my Fitbit, but it sounds like it is the Fitbit which is having problems with the Galaxy 8. I'm pretty frustrated also because my Fitbit isn't "finding" my phone when I go to run. I can't pace myself. Pretty doggone frustrating when you're training for a marathon. Please Fitbit, fix this! I always give such high reviews to EVERYONE I speak to about it.

I had the same issue. Couldnt connect to gps for running. But I finally solved it. I connected via classic and the app and then turned Off notifications on the blaze.

Hello my friend, @csanford0714! Welcome aboard. Heart The Samsung Galaxy S8+ is still not a compatible device. This is why some features might not be working as they should. Your previous phone (Galaxy S6) is compatible, so everything was working fine.

However, you can try by checking that you are running the latest version of the App, resetting your tracker and rebooting your phone. And here are some other tips and tricks for you to try.

If this doesn't work, keep and eye on the list as our engineers share the new compatible devices, once they have fully tested it with our App.Man Wink

Keep me updated.

I too have just upgraded to the Samsung s8 which is a great handset but guess fitbit wasn't aware that Samsung was releasing a new flag ship smart phone which lots of people will want and a lot of them will be fitbit blaze users. Really silly of fitbit if you ask me. I might even look into jumping ship to another compatible smart watch/fitness tracker. Reckon if they don't catch up they gonna loose business.

It's great to see you here @Mazza6059. Keep in mind that in order to connect successfully your tracker with your phone, it needs to be compatible and Samsung Galaxy S8 is not a compatible phone. Our team is hard working in testing the compatibility of several phones and hope they can add this one soon. I recommend keeping an eye on our list of compatible mobile devices for any update.

Catch you later. Woman Happy

Hey there @Dragonfruit. Good to see you around! Thanks for the feedback on this.

@Mazza6059, thanks for getting back! Samsung is the most used brand of phones along with the iPhone so I would say our team is hard at work to get it fully compatible. It is a relatively new phone and sometimes it could take a while for all the testing to be performed to fully announce a device as compatible but I'm pretty positive they're working on that.
