ISSUE: Can't sync or pair Blaze with an iOS device

BLAZE FIRMWARE VERSIONS AFFECTED: (8.301.7) & (8.200.3)

iOS VERSIONS AFFECTED: 10.2.x

*** FIXED IN BLAZE FIRMWARE VERSION (8.301.8) ***

Still having trouble? Can't update or sync?

Read the difference between unbonding and unpairing first:

Unbonding - going into the bluetooth settings of your iPhone or iPad, selecting the Blaze, then choosing "Forget This Device".

Unpairing - going into the Fitbit app, selecting the Blaze, then choosing "Remove This Blaze".

*** DO NOT DO THIS TO TROUBLESHOOT THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE ***

Now that you've read that, try unbonding BEFORE trying to update your Blaze firmware (see screenshots below):

  1. Go to your iOS device's Settings > Bluetooth > Find Blaze in the "My Devices" list.
  2. Tap the info icon and tap "Forget this Device".

Okay, I've unbonded. Now what?

Try syncing your Blaze, then try to update the firmware.

Still can't sync or update? Here are some suggestions:

  1. Try doing some standard sync troubleshoots
  2. Sync/update using an alternate device (if possible)

Updated on 1/20/17 for clarity.

Me too. "Forget" it, now I can't get it to recognize it.

I'd just try deleting the device from your phone and go into Bluetooth and delete it from there and add as. A new device and see what happens!

About reminders

Turn them off in the app - sync your tracker

Turn them in in the app - sync your tracker

If that doesn't work then do an add device with the replace option.

To remove a tracker from the phone you go to your phones BT and remove it there.

Removing from the app only tells Fitbit that you do not want to use the tracker anymore, and will only add more problems.

Do not remove from the app

Many thanks! I'm back in biz! Ur directing me to Fitbit settings to control Bluetooth connectivity worked. I had somehow been disconnected from Bluetooth on Fitbit so iPhone couldn't discover, let alone forget the device.
I appreciate ur quick reply. I just haven't had a chance to respond as quickly!
All the best,

Yes i have done all that. I have went as far as totally removing the app from my phone, the blaze from my phones bluetooth settings, restarting both the phone and blaze, then reinstalling the app and adding the blaze like it was brand new.  I still have issues with both notices (only works using the "original" face) and reminder to walk (doesn't work at all anymore) since the lastest firmware came out to fix the sync issues.

Congrats Fitbit, you have given me the reason I needed to go buy an Apple Watch... TWO totally flawed software updates in a row... that's incompetence. [Drops un-update-able Blaze in trash can]

Here's some advice, when you release an "update" to "fix" an issue, be sure it actually works!!

You better have have some more staff in over xmas to deal with the storm that's going to hit your customer service dept in the coming days....

Synced ok this Morning and failed to locate blaze again just now, this is all post "update"Synced ok this Morning and failed to locate blaze again just now, this is all post "update"

No sync again after "update"No sync again after "update"

Same issues (isnt recognized by Bluetooth, restart doesn't work, reinstalling apps -nothing.) This has benough happening since December 9. Nothing will help fix it which makes it impossible and pointless to use and me considering buying a decice by another company.

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM FITBIT- how do we fix it????

Best Answer

I'm currently experiencing the same problem as other iOS 10.2/Blaze users.   After "forgetting" the device, no change.  Then, like many others, I removed the device from the app, and now it will not get past the verification part.   However--- add to all of that another level of frustration----- my fitbit completely died several days ago, when I plugged it in to charge, it restarted fine... except now it is 12.5 hours off on the time...... so now I can't even use it as just a WATCH!

Thinking Santa may take herself to the Apple store and buy an Apple Watch if this isn't resolved REAL quick...

I was having the same issue as above, went to settings, then bluetooth, then forgot the device.  I turned my phone on then off again, then launched the Fitbit app, it asked to connect and then the time seems to have updated, which is good.  At this moment it is still "Updating..." but seems to have stopped halfway through.

I'm in a quandary now about the firmware update. Mine stopped syncing last week, but suddenly started working  again days later after I had tried all suggestions (I had turned Bluetooth off and on earlier, so much have been that although it wasn't immediately syncing afterwards). Now it's fine, except the battery is running down every day (I was getting five days at least from a charge). I'm going on vacation tomorrow and will be doing a lot of walking, so I don't know if I should try updating the firmware and taking the chance that it will have more problems, or be resigned to daily charging, which I will not remember to do, so will probably not be able to use it anyway.  Very annoying- I went through the whole Charge defective band debacle last year, and really hoped there would not be issues with the Blaze. I love Fitbits but won't get another one if they keep having these problems.

Fitbit is the biggest piece of crap I have ever owned. How many times do consumers have to put up with syncing issues, incorrect data and overall failed technology. Instead of the steady stream of new fitness tracker that Fitbit likes to roll out like gumball prizes on a conveyor belt, they need to be spending more time updating their 16th century technology. Time and again I've had to re-sync, re-install, force close the app or turn off bluetooth to get this $200 piece of junk working again. I will not be purchasing any more of fitbit products after this latest syncing debacle because I don't have the time nor inclination to be Fitbit tech support for a device that should just work when you need it to.

Yes I also agree. Because of this debacle this will be my last Fitbit.

Hi Taskew
I am currently feeling the same way, have been for many months now.  Syncing has always been an issue and bluetooth well it just decides it wont work and then it will, just not reliable.   When I get up in the morning for a run at 5am I dont wish to be turning on off my phone, blaze trying to get the bluetooth to work, driving me insane.   If I use strava with my blaze it double counts my steps so this isnt an option to track kms run..... Cheers!Leanne

Just chimming in to say I'm having the same issue.  It's been like this for over a week.  I removed the blaze thinking that might help, but it didn't, so now not only can't I sync, I can't even add the Blaze back to the app. I've tried reinstalling the app, shutting down, etc.  Frustrating!

I disconnected mine from Bluetooth. Powered off iPhone. Ran update after. Asked to pair with Blaze and I accepted. Update went through. Watch is working again 🤓
