ISSUE: Can't sync or pair Blaze with an iOS device

BLAZE FIRMWARE VERSIONS AFFECTED: (8.301.7) & (8.200.3)

iOS VERSIONS AFFECTED: 10.2.x

*** FIXED IN BLAZE FIRMWARE VERSION (8.301.8) ***

Still having trouble? Can't update or sync?

Read the difference between unbonding and unpairing first:

Unbonding - going into the bluetooth settings of your iPhone or iPad, selecting the Blaze, then choosing "Forget This Device".

Unpairing - going into the Fitbit app, selecting the Blaze, then choosing "Remove This Blaze".

*** DO NOT DO THIS TO TROUBLESHOOT THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE ***

Now that you've read that, try unbonding BEFORE trying to update your Blaze firmware (see screenshots below):

  1. Go to your iOS device's Settings > Bluetooth > Find Blaze in the "My Devices" list.
  2. Tap the info icon and tap "Forget this Device".

Okay, I've unbonded. Now what?

Try syncing your Blaze, then try to update the firmware.

Still can't sync or update? Here are some suggestions:

  1. Try doing some standard sync troubleshoots
  2. Sync/update using an alternate device (if possible)

Updated on 1/20/17 for clarity.

Hello and thank you for trying to fix the problem.  I have "forgotten" my Blaze via Bluetooth as directed, and cannot get the firmware to update.  I have tried multiple times.  Halfway throug, it stops and sends me back to the main screen that tells me I need to (duh!) update my tracker.  Argh!!  I'm stuck in an infinite DO loop.

I don't think the help team from Fitbit monitor these posts. If you contact them by email or twitter they will try and fix or if not and you are in the 2 year warranty they will send you a new one!

OMG Thank you so much for this. Forgetting the device in the Bluetooth settings has not been mentioned on the help section of Fitbit & I've been going around in circles trying to update. As soon as I followed your steps, my Blaze updated! Wish I had gone to this forum first before I bothered contacting Fitbit 'support'.

I finally got mine to work by forgetting it, re-downloading app, shutting down the Fitbit itself multiple times, and re-pairing the blaze (which only worked after it was plugged into its charging dock)... however through this process several days worth of data was lost during the time it was not synching. I thought the device stored data for 30 days???? What the heck! Super disappointed with Fitbit for this huge flop. Just bought my mom a new one for Christmas and hoping she doesn't have these kinds of issues or she will give up the entire concept...

I've lost 10 days of data because of this sync issue!!Man Sad

Had to go as far as deleting app from phone before sorting the problem!

Try deleting the app then install it again after resetting the tracker. good luck.

I'm having the same problem right now, did all the troubleshooting, restarting, deleting, etc. And naturally when I had it forget the device now it can't find the Blaze at all. Mine had already been updated so it's super frustrating because none of these are actually solutions.

Mine is working now. I reset the tracker by holding in the bottom right button and the left button till it restarted. Everything was restored & is working fine now.... did you try that?

Make sure your bluetooth on your fitbit Blaze is turned on. I had this same problem and noticed that I must have accidentally turned off my Bluetooth on the Blaze. After I fixed that it worked right away.

Thank you Andrewfitbit for sticking with on the non-syncing issue! I finally gog it to work after I turnrd off Bluetooth and used the "forget this device". The update in firmware started working and synced up successfully.

Mine updated, but syncing is still an in issue for me. I have to push sync several times. I have loved my Fitbits up until this point. I even still have issues with my band falling off. My husband apparently has gotten tired of my frustration and looking for my Fitbit when it falls off because he's ordered me an Apple Watch.

My "steps per hour" and heart rate no longer works after running the update. I have gone through all troubleshooting steps to no avail.

I am still having issues with my IPHONE and syncing my Blaze.  I have looked at all the instructions, trouble shooting and everything posted.   Is the Fitbit and IOS 10.2 still having compatability issues?
