Fitbit Blaze step count inaccurate

Hey there,

Today was my first full day rocking my Blaze. I went to an outdoor festival and had some solid step count, however, when I got home and checked my step count I noticed that the blaze tracked about 1/4 the steps I actually took. My iPhone health app logged about 10K and my Fitbit did about a 1/4 of that (2500). Also I noticed it did an auto workout and thought I had rode my bike. I think this is due to my sons stroller I was pushing. Any suggestions on how to calibrate? If I go for a run and use the GPS- will that help? Thanks!

@SunriseRunner41. I think that the tracker will track movements that it considers strong enough regardless if they come from a step or not. For example, the Fitbit One is the most accurate step tracker, I had it clipped to my bra and had a coughing fit that accounted for 30 something steps. I don't think you will get away from things like that. But when actually walking it should be as accurate as possible because that's what is intended for.

Guys it is undercounting and Fitbit knows the problem.

I found the blaze to be very very inaccurate with steps (like missing half). I actually got another one sent to me (to see if I had a defective one - although the complaint was weak vibration).... Both units exactly the same, so it wasn't defective device. Back they both go. I really wanted to love it but something is very off with this new design. What a shame. I'll go back to the hr for now.

Part of me is feeling a bit better that so many people are having the same issue. Surely this should prompt some type of software update or product recall to rectify the issues. Pushing shopping trolleys, carrying a bag or walking a dog holding the lead should not affect the step counting abilities to such a huge margin.

I've done multiple tests and counted hundred of steps and have only had my device be off by about 4 for every 200. That was with me intentionally doing stop and go movements and doing different walking motions and speeds to throw it off and it still did a great job. I've not had to bend my arms in any odd way either. I just walked normally.

I have been encountering the same problem with the Blaze not counting my steps.  I actually gave my Charge HR to my neighbor and after walking the same distance together, my count was off, (243 steps.)  I have been rebooting at least 4 times during the day and that seems to get it to start the count back up.  Sorry to say I am sending this back.

I have to say...I think they missed the mark. 😞
I've been struggling with whether or not to keep it. And with the Step
Count being so inaccurate on top of it just feels cheap.....and I really
think a lot of that has to do with the "plastic cube" being taken in and
out to charge..(mine every two days with very minimal use of any thing
other than checking my step count and a few messages)....I really want to
keep it.
But I think they will come out with a new one very soon with these issues.
😞

Wow I set my stride Friday night and Ever since its been really accurate as I am still wearing my one and they are about 500 steps apart now compared to the 2000 that it was off a few days ago..

Setting the stride will mostly fix this issue.

I've noticed a big difference in the Blaze vs Charge HR step count as well. My husband has the Charge HR and I have the Blaze. However even when we are together the whole day, taking the same amount of steps approximately, he has significantly more steps than I do. He also drives to work whereas I walk/take the subway and still he has more. While I noticed some posts have stated the Blaze is undercounting, I actually think the Charge HR is way overcounting and the Blaze seems pretty accurate. For example, when my husband wakes up, he already has over 500 steps! That's silly. I start with about 50 (I understand it captures movement sometimes too and mistakes them for steps) but that's a huge difference. Interested in hearing FitBit's response to this.

I was having the same issue. It was about 2,000 steps. I fixed it mostly by putting in step stride. But you are right when you are holding a basket and walking it doesn't count were charge HR had no issues. I really hope a firmware update will fix this. This is my only complaint. I now try and have my arm free while song activities so my steps count.

Nothing will fix the issue. Connected GPS needs an update. It has a bug.

I think my blaze is more accurate than the Fitbit I wore before. At least I hope. I do find it harder to reach my step count with blaze.

You shouldn't have to be connected to gps while just walking inside or are you talking about being outside running and that's the problem.

So, I walked around the earth some 90 times and I only burned 53 calories.

This was what I showed on my watch whereas the app looked to show realistic information.   This was just  a short test I did on a walk from my office to my car.  It was actually only about 700 steps or so but somehow registered as almost 4.3 billion steps.  I did some figuring and yes...it appears that is about how many steps it would take to circumnavigate the globe at the Equator some 90 times.

@ChrissyA How long have you been using it? I noticed that my step count has
gotten better and its on my left wrist as non-dominant. I am also comparing
with my One in my pocket and noticed that over the past few days it has
gotten a lot better. It was about 2000 steps off on my first day and then I
adjusted the stride and then over the next couple of days it got better now
its like 500 difference by the end of the night.

I was thinking about the same thing as I also wanted the alta but I am
loving the HR monitor on it...

On a serious note, what operating system do you sync with? I recall seeing a similar discrepancy recently.
